Our softball team thinks they are going to do the same thing. I think they’re going to learn very soon that doesn’t work at the highest level. They already missed on two of their biggest targets last off season because they were outbid. They’re still recruiting high school pretty well, but those girls will be looking for their paydays too soon enough.
Yeah, and then when one or more of these players balls out they will get poached for more $ by another program.
I think Billy is relying on the quality of the player experience here to help retain players. He argues that our university, housing, training facilities, location, and educational opportunities are hard to compete with. I tend to agree. That doesn't mean kids won't ever leave. Some will obviously leave for their own personal reasons. But, on the whole, I suspect that the players that we want to retain will remain Gators. I don't think many of our guys will jump for a few extra $$$, esp the ones who know an NFL payday awaits them in a year or two.
Yeah, I think we needed to make changes in the coaching staff (maybe still need to make 1 or 2), so I’m glad we pulled the trigger. But we need to make some announcements in the next few days.
Unless we hear it from the player's mouth (and even then it's hard to know when they are being sincere), it's all speculation. I think the above is possibly true, but I think the post-NIL Era of CFB is much less about the team and winning and more about the individual athlete "getting mine". It's hard to envision that changing, even with guardrails on NIL and transfers. The game I love started a slow death 2 years ago. It's just descending to hell faster than I anticipated.
Not so sure I think he still wants to be a Gator just a winning Gator with a better/different use of his skillset
cant believe everyone is overthinking this. In college, Princely should be a WSDE/edge rushing the passer waaay more than he did this past season. He was nurtured this past season as far as being able to use his best asset
