What if you play no really great teams and look terrible against the weak teams without your starting QB?

PAC 12 > ACC by a LARGE margin this year. I think they could.

Nah, he's a nole troll. He started a thread regarding the noles soccer dynasty in the other sports forum.

Nothing yet on all their basketball and baseball championships tho.

He almost had me believing he's not a nole fan.
But naaah. They should blame themselves for their semi-sery. They had a chance to join the SEC but decided to take the easiest path to NC.

Oh please. I've already stated I don't "hate" FSU like most here (mainly due to siblings who went there) so sue me. I don't like them, but I'm not vociferously hateful of them like you. That's why I specifically made the post "if it WASN'T FSU...", to make it work for most posters here. My level of dislike for FSU is probably akin to most Gator fans feelings toward someone like Auburn. Dislike, but not outright abhorrence. But you can keep calling me a troll, whatever...

As for my soccer post on the other board, I've already mentioned that soccer is my second favorite sport. And I so desperately want to see the Gator soccer program get back to where it once was. Soccer is probably the only thing in the world that I'm jealous of FSU of. That post was definitely made out of frustration because I'm tired of seeing them winning and it's been so long since we were really good.

Could being the key word. What do you think Vegas would say about Huskies and Puppies? I bet puppies would be a td favorite. You did see Oregon try to play with Georgia last year right? I doubt the gap closed 40+ points since last year but maybe it has.
And yes, I think fsu would have beaten Washington if Travis dint get hurt. Texas about to take em out even though I’m rooting for Washington.

We didn’t even have soccer when I was a kid and I’m only 55. The history isn’t all that long. It was probably 1977 the first time I saw a kids league for soccer and my sister played. My male grandson plays now as did one of my six boys. By junior hs in 1980, a few boys played soccer and we were forced to play it a PE. The 2-3 kids that had played it before got to embarrass all the kids that only knew how to play football baseball in basketball.

Going to strongly disagree with this characterization of Georgia as the “still reigning” national champion, even though I know what you meant. Georgia has been dethroned, period, now that they have no possibility of winning again this year. They are reigning jack and —— right now. And Jack has left town. In terms of actual royalty, this is what we would call an interregnum period, where there is not yet an heir apparent and the vultures are struggling for the crown.

You don’t know that, and it highlights the problem with our current system of playing the first two rounds of the playoffs on paper, in the minds of a committee. Contrary to popular belief, FSU does not suck at football… even with their 3rd string QB, they won. We were getting slapped around with our 1st string QB.

They went undefeated plain and simple. I do think the committee chose the 4 best teams, so they got it right by the intent of the system. Personally, I think that it should be the 4 most deserving teams. It’s more fair.

Never thought I’d see the day that interregnum was used on this board. Well done, sir.

It’s not fair!!!!! God I hate that phrase. Life isn’t fair right. The criteria is set up beforehand and that’s the best that could be done. They did tge right think and it ducks for fsu but so what, suck it up buttercups. Life will shortly show those kids that life can kick your ass way worse than that and it’s not fair either.

That was the same year that the Gators beat West Virginia 41-7 in the Sugar Bowl making any argument moot. The same may happen to FSU vs. Georgia this year.

What do you mean by "4 most deserving?" Are you saying you would prefer for different criteria to be used in the selection process? If so, how would you identify the criteria to be used (assuming we were staying with a 4-team selection process)?

I'm with you, brother. I haven't genuinely hated them since 52-20. I try to live vicariously through the likes of those who do have a hate for them because it rekindles fun memories. Regardless, they're just so easy to have a laugh at, and this situation is just more clowns in the clown car. I'm surprised they're not mad at the people (whoever they are) that convinced them that all they had to do was win the ACC Championship Game to be in. Them realizing that the world doesn't respect the quality of the ACC the way they do was like their fans discovering that Santa isn't real. Part of me says that we shouldn't laugh at their expression of frustration, but then I realize it's just a game, so I laugh away.

After the games were played- of course they were moot.
But I'm talking about before any post-season games were played.
I think most have forgotten how it worked because I keep getting comments like this...

Let me review for those who are young or don't have good memories.

    • Something like the BCS matched up the #1 and #2 teams to get a true National championship game back then. (The Big 10/ Pac 10 were not involved.
    • AFTER THE REGULAR SEASON but before the bowl games were played, the bowl games were assigned.
Here's a cut and paste from the wikipedia entry...

Undefeated Nebraska was assured of a spot in the national championship game. The organizers chose Florida State as the Cornhuskers' Orange Bowl opponent, feeling that the Seminoles’ pattern of dominant victories outweighed Notre Dame's head-to-head win and West Virginia's undefeated record. (Florida State had easily beaten Miami and Maryland, two teams which the Mountaineers struggled to beat.) Notre Dame would face No. 7 Texas A&M, the SWC champion, in the Cotton Bowl, while West Virginia squared off against No. 8 Florida in the Sugar Bowl.

So again I ask the OP and anyone else who doesn't understand...
Why was A ONE LOSS FSU TEAM chosen over an UNDEFEATED West Virginia to play in the national title game?
Why was that ok, but yet not this...

And to be clear- this was the playoff back then.
IF WVU and Nebraska had played in the Orange, and Nebraska won, then THERE IS NO NATTY FOR FSU IN 93.
    Nebraska is the national champ.

The hypocrisy and idiocy of Florida State continues to amaze me.

As usual, you always find a way to end up with a negative comment about UF. And seriously, I want the Gators women's programs to do well, but women's soccer is way down the list of importance in this conversation, and once again you find a way to denigrate the Gators in some way while talking in a positive way about something involving fsu. Even in your screen name, instead of UF in upper case you have it in lower case. Just like I use lower case when I talk about fsu.

Exactly right. The whole system is flawed. Selecting 4 teams based on a blend of subjective and objective criteria is a recipe for disaster.
