How many games can you play in the football season and not have a count towards a year of eligibility?

What about a medical redshirt? Thinking of Kingsley - he was clearly hurt all season and played in parts of multiple games but couldn't compete by the end of the year. Is he eligible for a medical redshirt?
Medical redshirt is something you apply to NCAA for. Basically, instead of 5 years to play 4, you get 6 years to play 4. The free covid year also allowed for this so if the player was here in 2020, they already have 6 years to play 4.
Kingsley has another year of eligibility regardless....just apparently doesn't want to use it. TBH, I'm not sure UF wouldn't prefer to have the roster spot open
