Of course not, but there are a few diehards that believe EVERY call against the Gators is a conspiracy. The last time we got screwed to the standards of the Swindle was...the Swindle. You can find many folks who make Endless Excuses, but it doesn't mean it's so...
For the most part, the officiating was average. But, the benefit of the doubt went to FSU. They also only had 1 penalty in the course of play. Others were procedural. Total of 22 yards. Plus: During most skirmishes, they left the flags in the pocket. Exception: when the fsu player threw a punch in one of them. If spitting is an ejection, a punch should be also. Minuses: Holding at the end of the first half. The ONLY one all night and it took away a TD attempt and resulted in a missed FG. Call them all or call none. PI: The one on 14 was legit. The one on 4 was terrible. Should've been offensive or a no call. Ball was not catchable and extended their final TD drive. With all that said, the game came down to their d line finishing strong against our O-line. Also, their 4 scoring drives had 3 TD's and 1 FG. Our 5 scoring drives were 1 TD, 2 FG's and 2 missed FG's. They look pretty average other than that. Their fans seem to think theyre some kind of Juggernaut. IF they make the playoffs, they'll get boatraced.
What makes it so is the fact they had one in game penalty in a rivalry game in 48 minutes...so go ahead and believe they played a perfect game from start to finish. Not one holding...no pass interference...no taunting...no punch...no illegal blocking.. no hands to the face... Its not even as much that they got called for no penalties all game but that it was obvious to most here they wouldn't get called for any before the game even started and the ACC officials followed the script as usual. When the last decade of SEC officiating is 50/50 and the last decade of ACC officiating is 3/1 in favor of FSU it seems we got jobbed again.
To a passionate homer fan, it may indeed seem so, but passionate homer fans never seem to notice the non-calls or bad calls that benefit our team and hurt the other team. Game threads are always like this, which makes the threads unenjoyable. Unless it was like The Swindle (and this game wasn't within a light year of The Swindle), endless whining about corrupt officials only make us sound lame and weak. Having served 26 years in the Army, we all had contempt for excuses drilled into our heads. If a soldier asks why something went wrong, the only correct answer is "No excuse, sir!" "What's the maximum effective range of an excuse, soldier?!?" "Zero meters, Sir!!" But if you think this was even close to The Swindle, please copy all the commentary of it from non-Gator homer writers and broadcasters. The Swindle was a national disgrace that even Gator haters outside of Tallahassee (and a handful of Zook haters among us) considered outrageous.
The roughing the passer was the correct call. He hit him in the head. You may not like the rule, but it's automatic.
Says who? We've gotten that called against us in the past--much less severe than that one. Rusher with his arms up trying to knock down the ball and his arms grazes the qb's helmet without otherwise touching him. Sure, I don't like the rule, but it's the correct call.
Time will tell but if Louis Ville gets the short end of the officiating next week it will look even more like they are trying to protect their (ACC) high ranked team.
Take a physics class, learn a little about inertia and get back to me. I mean they were in mid air already when he began to slide and was clearly both trying to pull off. When you’re moving and you try to stop, you can try and stop but if the forces don’t let you get out of the way say it a QB gets under and a couple linemen getting on him he used to cause an extra 15 yards if you need it. Nobody would have said anything had they not called it or at least more would had they done so.
It must be the super homer fans that are afraid of the “beginning of the game” scared of the score and refs people. I was unhappy to see the calls they were calling on them sans a couple. They know exactly how to make it look like they are looking one way. I actually had that thought which I have before ostensibly destroying your theory. Hence the low score when we were destroying them it felt and the horrible calls as we “hung around”.

because of logistics. Basketball games occur during the week so easier to officiate games that are somewhat local which doesnt necessarily align to conferences. Football games are on weekends so easier logistically. My former boss was a college basketball and football official.
Not defending Refs. I assume that when ACC refs come to Gainesville, they come with an agenda. But, my issue is with the damn rules that set up so many opportunities for questionable calls. Holding is holding, or not, depending on whether a ref wants to call holding. Same with roughing the passer. PI? What difference does it make if the defender turns his head? Did he make contact that obstructed the catch? On and on. Oh wait. This one blows my mind. It is ok if the entire OL raises out of their stance to look at the QB, but it is a false start if one flinches long b4 the snap with no consequences--if the official decides to call it.
There should not be conference affiliated refs. This is a stupid reason to have them. I think it is easy to fix. Just put refs in regions and make it logistically easier. The top sec and acc refs get the best games in the SE (top officials are rated by an independent 3rd party not Nick Saban or some AL alum back in Birmingham). We already know the outcomes of ACC championship and Big 10 championship. Louisville and Iowa would have to be 2 td’s better to have a chance at winning by a point. it is stupid to have conference affiliated refs. I think I want to get some private equity and do a ref roll up and fix the problem. Does anyone know any college football refs?
