LOL. Then they look like Alabama or Georgia. They ARE impressive. I just don't think "an SEC team" as a generic deserves to be exalted like that.
Might be a good idea to keep Robinson as DC and Petrino as OC. Those guys did a nice job of coaching and recruiting. The problem under Jimbo was Jimbo. Robinson worked for Elko when Elko was the DC at A&M.
Maybe. I don't know about Petrino. I think Aggies have the most talented group of WRs in SEC and they never really showed it.
I get your point, but context is everything. Duke had 5 wins combined in 2020 and 2021. So to win 16 games in two seasons following that is remarkable. As for this season, Riley Leonard got hurt at the end of the ND game and never fully came back. Eventually Duke played the last 4 games starting a true FR 3rd string QB. They played a tough schedule for Duke (ND, FSU, Clemson, NC St, LVille), had bad injury luck, got screwed by ACC officials against UNC, and still came out 7-5. All things considered that's not bad. I'm a little surprised at the hire only because to pony up $76 million for Jimbo's buyout, I thought there was a bigger fish in their sights. But if I'm an A&M fan I like the hire, Elko has been good everywhere he's been.
Your reasons are like mine, this hire will eventually cost upwards of 100 million. $$$ so i figured they get the biggest fish they could. I thought it was a great job of Elko to turn his average results (so far) into the job of his life.
And remember Chizik getting booed when he got off the plane at Auburn? I wonder how much the deal was with Stoops. And then he gets the call, "sorry, nope." probably had a new yacht on order.
Good hire for TAM, there will be some continuity, some of the guys on TAM’s defense now were recruited by him.
But Stoops is out of the question? What a joke. It's amazing how dumb fans are. A&M deserves everything it ISN'T going to get.
But CLEARLY, he's SO much better than Bob Stoops. Only a fool couldn't see the CLEAR and OBVIOUS difference between the two.
Yeah, everyone loved Muschamp's "intensity". I even remember people posting videos of him head butting a guy who was wearing a helmet at the time (and bleeding as a result) and those same people being psyched about that and thinking it was cool.
Bob Stoops hasn't coached in years. Perhaps you are speaking of Mark Stoops. Mark Stoops and Elko are quite comparable. I think the Aggies would be good to get either of them. The reason I think it will be Elko is that Elko is their former DC and has more familiarity with the Aggie program.
Sorry, I meant Mark. No, they made their first choice and it was a smart and informed one. Then the dumbasses chimed in due to lack of "hype" factor and here we are. Hope it's an absolute and dismal failure. Yeah, give in to the dumbass fans. That always works.
Really don't see a huge difference between Stoops and Elko. Where Elko has the advantage is his success as DC with A&M and his success with Duke. I think he is a better fit.
Well, they apparently did because Stoops was their first choice. . . until the choir of foot-stamping, infantile moron fans chimed in. 1 year as a HC vs. 10. Yeah, this was clearly a fan-forced hype choice. Think about it. This would be like hiring Grantham because he had a couple good seasons under Mullen. You're literally hiring the DC under the guy you just fired for underperformance. That doesn't seem like an informed decision and, yes, I hope they get burned to a crisp for it.
Yep, year before they won the title. All of this said, he isn't exactly underpaid at Kentucky ($6.75/Year) and they love him. Only downside is it's next to impossible to win a NC, but the fans love him and I'm sure it's a lot less stressful than coaching for the entitled DBs at Texas A&M. "We're from TEXAS, We have money, We EXPECT to win." Screw them, UT and the cows they rode in on.
