From the day he stepped on campus I believed Jack Pyburn was playing out of position. He has middle linebacker written all over him. At 6'3 250 and his wrestling background, he would plug up anything up the middle. Same size as Spikes. I really think he could have helped in the middle this year before his injury.
Well his primary focus last class (which was his true 1st class that he had a full cycle to recruit not just 2 months) was the Dline and WRs and DB's and he did a fantastic job there especially at Dline and WR. He also stole Kearney from FSU , got knijeah harris from IMG and hit the Portal hard at OL. Plus we were recruiting the best lineman out there and would've even got some if ol Ruiz didn't blow his wad on those kids. Lol This class looks focused on LBs, Dline again and OL. Mainly at LB With us currently holding one of the best LB classes we've ever had.
Thanks for sharing that perspective. I'm hopeful that we hit the portal heavily this off-season to try and address some of the more deficient position groups. I know the portal isn't a magic fix but we need to patch the holes until the permanent solution is here.
He won there at a lower level. UCF has since moved to a p5 conference, how will he fare there? We do not know yet. I would be disappointed to lose Malzahn for Frost.. and i like Frost more than Malzahn, just feel Malzahn has accomished more and seems that carries weight when he recruits.
I tend to agree against the run.....wonder what his foot-speed and agility is like. Miller was an excellent run-stuffer but struggled in pass coverage.
Well it seems he was getting practice reps. For several games he was listed on the DP as an "or" with Nunnery and Scooby at SAM. Along with him listed at the Jack.
Interesting....I never look at Napier's depth charts because I know who is starting and they are essentially meaningless as to which back-up will get minutes.
The position groups mentioned are QB, OL, LB. Mertz is the only transfer currently on the team in those positions making an impact of what I would call above replacement level. So, you can remove your disagree because the names you took offense to me omitting were not apart of the discussion.
Linebackers and part of the d line. I realize that there is a great element of youth, but I can remember several true frosh that played def for the Gators through the years and they made great strides their first year. It may be coaching. I give the young d backs a pass because you cant cover a receiver for more than 4 seconds and they have had to. Anybody with ability should look sharper as the season goes on.
They can play for a title next year or come to us and try for 8 wins. We all understand the dilemma, it’ll cost us.
Agree 100%, but plenty of times I miss Miller's run stopping and ATTITUDE. I realize he was a liability in the pass defense though.
