It’s hard to imagine an undefeated FSU team that was #4 the first two weeks, not making the playoffs. It’s also difficult to imagine UGA dropping below #4 even if Bama beats them because they have been so dominant all season. However, I don’t recall the precedent for a one loss team that just lost its championship jumping an undefeated team that just won its conference championship. Will be interesting.
Undefeated gets in even though Georgia would be double digits favorites in that situation. It’s really not the four best teams.
Umm do you even remember 2006? We went 3-1 against Top 13 teams before the championship game. FSU is 2-0. The team behind them, Washington, is 3-0 against ranked teams and has a chance to be 4-0 after Saturday.
It's not that we won. It is HOW we won. Beat Tennessee (9-4) by one Beat Georgia (9-4) by seven Beat Vandy (!) (4-8) by six Beat USCe (8-5) by one Beat FSU (7-6) by seven How many of those were top 13 teams? We beat one team with fewer than four losses for the season -- LSU by 13. Everyone and their brother thought Ohio State was going to crush us. Do I remember 2006? It was perhaps my proudest year as a Gator. That team flat out refused to lose! But I also remember 1996. I remember 1984/5. I remember 1979, when I told folks nearly 25 years later that it CAN be worse than winning "only" 8 games a year.
Remembering the job Spurrier did coaching that game is like listening to Willy Wonka singing "Pure Imagination."
You might want to revisit 2006 then. We played 2 teams that finished with 2 losses - Auburn and LSU. And I hate to rain on your lovefest with Ohio St, but part of the reason why we made it to the BCS title game was 2-fold - USC lost and our strength-of-schedule, which obliterated Ohio St and the entire Big 10 that season. Michigan had no argument when it was brought up by Danielson on the air. Tennessee was #13 when we played them and it was a road game. USCe was the game when we flexed our will, OSU would have lost that game. We didn't block one, but 2 field goals. OSU also barely beat a 2-10 Illinois team that year. The combined record of their opponents leading up to us was 76-75. Ours was 98-69. In fact, before playing Michigan to a 3 pt win, Ohio St played 7 straight games against sub .500 teams, while we played only 4 teams all season with losing records, never playing 2 or more back-2-back. We also had to play an extra conference championship, which is why Michigan had no case against us.
We finished 1-1 against them. You're being emotional. Nowhere have I shown any love for the Bucknuts. This I know and agree. They finished 25th. Speculation against a 8-win USCe team. Yes, and Spurrier nearly lost to 2-9 Vandy in 2006. These things happen. LSU loat to Ron Zook in 2003. The combined record of their opponents leading up to us was 76-75. Ours was 98-69. [/quote] Why is this relevan? I know Florida had a much tougher SOS. Had Leak played OSUs schedule, he might have had an invite to New Youk. We played eight top 25 defenses that year. All true, but OSU demolished most everyone. That was the perception at the time, and many Gator fans were whining about our suck offense, which was ranked 19th in the nation. And as such, Chris got much of the blame by more than a few fans...
half-ass-u was patient with their coach until he began winning. We've never been patient with our coaches. Mullen took us to three major bowls and we fired him.
my condolenses on your prognosis, maybe you should get a 2nd opinion or are you saying they're going to home and home soon
fsu fans don't support their team when their losing, so, nobody saw the games. Easy to be patient when you're absent.

I guess I was arguing why we deserved to be in the BCS title game and why I never thought OSU was an overwhelming favorite. Ohio St didn't impress me that year, very pedestrian schedule, with only a couple of tough games to deal with while we had almost a full slate. We were battle-tested and they weren't. Like I said before, 7 straight games against teams with a losing record means your stats are going to be inflated.
I didn't say that WE thought they were an overwhelming favorite. What I said was virtually everyone in the nation outside the Sunshine State (and particularly Gainesville) considered them an overwhelming favorite. As for being "battle tested," well, all I can offer is Florida State in the 1990s. Remember, they played in the All Cupcake Conference while we had to endure the gauntlet of the SEC. Yet the Noles were 8-5-1 against the Gators. And yes, the excuses poured out, to include, but certainly not limited to: * FSU rested all their starters a month before they played us, so we were beaten down while they were fresh (we usually played Kentucky, Vandy or USCe (combined record 51-82) before the Noles)... * Spurrier consider the FSU just another OOC regular season game. His focus was the SEC... * FSU cheated their way to the top. We played completely clean... and the eternal... * Playing Florida was FSU's Super Bowl. To us, they were just another game. Add your own! It's easy...and fun! This one I had framed... 148 pages devoted to the Bucknuts. Two pages covering the Gators. Meyer said he didn't even need to speak to the players to motivate them. All he needed to do was plaster the pages of these magazines all over the locker room, practice field and weight room.
