What was the payout to Muschamp for Florida? Did he lose any of that when he took the South Carolina job?

 

6.2 million, and for some strange reason UF doesn't put offset clauses in their contracts.

 

He got $12.9M from USCe and $6.2M from UF.

 

Because of Jimbo, the next HBC there won't get anything close to that amount. I wouldn't be surprised they structure the contract so that they get that only if they produce results.

What baffles me is that seeing how he did at Florida, South Carolina agrees to twice the buyout.

 

I’m really surprised TAMU let Jimbo go this year without cause. Surely, they could’ve found some dirt on him like Tennessee or Michigan State did with their firings.

 

They made their decision a long time ago. They felt he had already checked out after the first 3 games.

 

Interestingly 3 of those guys have been on our staff at one point

 

So, looked it up, combined buyouts by UF from 2014-2021 was $25.8 million.

The college football coaching contract model is the worst in sports. Jimmy Sexton has nearly every school in the southeast bent over a barrel. One thing that I would change is make the buyouts identical for both sides all along the way. Schools foolishly fear their guy jumping ship. The buyout to leave early should be the same amount as fired early.

 

I'd be far more interested in the expense by decade. Certainly not doing business practice but in the age of golden parachutes these appear more like golden escalators. Pretty taxing, wouldn't you say.
