it seems So many excuses for Napier only being in his Second year.

Well, thys is Kelly’s 2nd year, yet Kelly looks as his team is ready for the shield and Napier is afraid to get his vaccine shot for play calling and hiring support staff.

by not Hiring support staff, he Comes AROUND as arrogant in refusing too admit his weaknesses.

WhyIS kelly able To compete so much better his 2nd YEAR than NAPIER? Unless we’re blaming the team (Which I isn’t), then the BuCK starts and STOPS wiyh the Hed Coach

Army, Grambling gave up less yardage than that we did on defense. Do they have more talent?
Where is the development? 708 of offense. That is inexcusable. Record breaking year for our defense. Most yardage given up, ever. Most run game given up individually, ever (Kentucky). Last four games given up more points than at any point in time in Gator Football history. That is a pattern.

That's interesting. It seemed to me that James started strong but was getting progressively worse at run fits. But he was still the best we had.

Good. If a question or comment posted wasn’t agreeable/ went personal.

    I left. Too depressing

I kind of thought this game would turn out like this. The d scheme needs to change to a true 4/3/4. I see most of the time 3 men hands on ground and a "rover." Got to get more pressure more often. When sos started his run and had Bates as his d coach they had a bend but don't break defense. It wasn't until Bates went to the no fun league that the next def coach (Darnell ") brought the heat. If not for the old ball coaches great offense that first team might not have won all those games.

Agree 100%, was never calling for a head coaching change or anything like that. I am aware it's going to take some time and good recruiting classes.

I am upset that the last 2 coaches particularly Mullen put us in this position.

Have to look forward, I agree!

    We will be back!!!

    Go Gators!

I was being sarcastic. Of course Raymond is not teaching these guys to do the things they are doing. The entire D is the same thing, no coach is teaching guys to take bad angles or miss tackles.

However, the same players continue to make the same mistakes week in and week out. That I put squarely on coaches, they have complete control over playing time. If they empty the bench and same results, fine, there are no alternatives, try again next year.

I never meant to contradict your post, I actually agreed with your post. But as far and Mullen goes, the one pint that no one is talking about is how many of his good players left our team when he was he was fired. It felt like he or his crappy underlings almost like sabotage our team by leaving us shorthanded.

The thing that hurts us the most right now is the complete rebuild. We had better open up the NIL cash or all of this can slow down to a crawl, or worse yet, backslide... And that goes for our recruiting class and portal players that we will need to shore up a couple of critical positions and for good quality depth. The biggest NIL offers get the best quality portal players. That will never change. But I do like the bottom up rebuild with some added portal players mixed in as needed.

Agreed. I'm proud of the way the team battled for sure. For most of that game we went toe to toe. However, defense is fundamentally about angles, rallying to the ball, leverage, and meeting the ball with the utmost aggression. Those things have far more to do with coaching than talent. Those things have been absent since the second half of the Tennessee game. You can get away with that against a Spencer Rattler and a KJ Jefferson (we gave that game away by icing our own kicker among other huge mistakes) but now we are playing better offenses and Daniels is other worldly. Cook and Travis are very good so do not expect defensive miracles moving forward.

Please check that. Darnell was DC and interim coach in '89. Not sure we had a Darnell coaching under Spurrier.

    Inside your head.
This is the point where the downers start scalp hunting and the reason no top tier coach wants to come here. Yes we have to build a defense but many of the pieces are already there and we ARE very young and inexperienced. It's tough to play LSU in their house, at night, even with a good defense. We've taken very good defenses into Baton Rouge and still lost. Let's all calm down and try to get bowl eligible. That extra game will really help with the experience and maturity of this young team. Next years class will bring new talent to an already talented offense and the defense should get better with a another year under their belt.
I still think CBN is the man to right the ship if the scalp hunters will stay off his back. 2024 can't get here soon enough.
    Go Gators!

Perspective... Goes a long way doesn't it?

I would be pleasantly surprised if we upset either of our last two teams... The key for them against our young defense is their running game and a great QB play. That seems to be the recipe that gives our very young team fits.

Having said that, I fully expect Napier to upgrade his staff for next year. That should come as no shock to those of us that see how our young but talented team is performing.

I don’t use injuries as an excuse either gatorjim. But the lack of quality depth on our team is a big reason we are where we are, especially on defense. That’s just my take.
I do think if we can hold the incoming class, or at least most of it, and do well in the portal we will be much better off next year.

I get the talent thing for sure but I will say that we have enough talent to scheme on defense to take away some element of an offense and make them beat us another way. The vast majority of defenses can do this. We aren't rolling out middle schoolers on defense. IMHO.

Never expires if you churn roster and don't use portal.

I am seeing posts that talk about "best effort all year" and "great effort." I think I saw good effort on offense, particularly when we'd get down and manage to get back into it (at least until later in the 4th quarter). But I'm not so sure I'd say we had a "great effort" on defense. It was more individual. I saw some loafing. I saw a lot of missed tackles (hard to excuse that at this point). I saw poor angles. Maybe some posters are differentiating effort from execution? Not sure, but I did not see consistent effort on defense. Looked to me like the defense folded. But that's just me. We have a long way to go...a looonnnnngggg way.
