Kiffin has grown a lot since his days at Oakland NFL, UT for one year, USCw, then Bama then FAU. He is humorous and runs a great offense, but he lacks the talent pool at Ole Miss (defense, depth, etc) to be able to win the SEC West vs Bama and Lsu and even Tex AM.

I for one would think he would prefer UF over Bama, assuming money is similar, due to (i) dont follow a legend (Bear, SOS, Osborne) and (ii) talent pool in FL.

After Napier's ship finally sinks under the weight of ineptitude, we should, imho, hire the Lane Train. He would recruit, portal snatch (coeds too), run a high powered offense, and have the ability to take us to a NC. In addition, his entertainment factor is worth something too unlike Coach Hats off to them.

Nobody…..NOBODY ever thought Steve Spurrier was a douchebag. EVER
Asshole maybe, but never a douche. Kiffen on the other hand has been a douche on numerous occasions. He may be better now, but once a douche…..

I can appreciate why rival fans hated Spurrier because as stated by @Crusher above, he was kicking their asses — and I’ll add that he was also making them the butt of his jokes. He was in their heads and was beating the good ole boy favorites with regularity.

I don’t know how old you were living in Alabama during the 90s, but you do have a fundamental misunderstanding of Steve Spurrier during his reign of terror on the SEC.

YOU simply cannot compare SOS with Lane Kiffen

And SOS had integrity. Kiffen's entitlement and off field antics disqualify him for Florida.

On cannot equivocate on the fact that they had their detractors as the reasons were significantly different.

I won’t disagree with most of this, but the criticisms of him at the time were different than if he’d merely been winning games. They didn’t think he had class, back then coaches didn’t wear visors and polo-style shirts for the most part in the deep south there were a lot of coaches who wore a dress shirt and tie. They were conservative, buttoned down and not like Spurrier. They didn’t throw visors on the ground after a bad play. They didn’t punt on third down. His retirement surely helped but also as I said, the accepted standards of dress, conduct and attitude have changed a lot in thirty years. They didn’t like the changing of the guard from a cultural standpoint. Being from Florida and being in my twenties I never had a problem with anything he did but believe me there were those that did.

Is there a particular reason? From the little that I know, some parties are not completely against the idea if and when it should come up.
As for Lane? He's always looking to step up. UF is a step above Ole Miss.

Guess who the biggest douchebag in football is....Saban. But he'll go down as the best college coach in history. If he's your douchebag and he wins, he can be forgiven.

As much as we all want Ole Miss to win, it isn’t happening. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I don’t think Nick Saban is anything close to a douche. It appears we have different meanings for the word douchebag

Saban is merciless and will chew out his assistants in public on on national TV, and has no regrets about it. I guess he's just an asshole then.
I suppose douchebaggery is something different. What's Kiffin done that you would say is douchebaggish.

I think when it comes to slur-words we all have different definitions and viewpoints on what qualifies as what.

I would personally call Saban tough. Demanding. Not one to suffer fools and very direct. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with any of that.

    Technically doucheba
If there is any confusion with what douchebag means it is easily cleared up by the Websters dictionary:

Websters clearly and succinctly defines douchebag as Danny Kannell or in even worse scenarios John Ruiz and it even has their pictures next to the word. Hope that clears it up for everyone...no further discussion necessary.

I used to really dislike Kiffin. His attitude reeked of being born on third base and thinking he hit a triple. He has as much as admitted such. But he has matured a lot post USC, and is doing a hell of a job at Ole Miss. He can run an offense. He is a bit cocky, but not overly so, and much of it is fairly entertaining.

His clown show firing at USC was not because he violated NCAA rules, or brought some disgrace to the school. They just weren't winning, in the wake of the Pete Carroll/Reggie Bush/NCAA mess. I mention "clown show" because the clown in this episode was Pat Haden, not Kiffin. Haden was/is a renowned jerk, who made a mess out of USC athletics. Exhibit 50 in his resume of incompetence is his firing of Kiffin, without warning, as he was getting off the team bus on the tarmac. Talk about a douche move; firing your head football coach off the bus in the public eye for losing a game? I'm pretty sure every AD in the country would view that as being about as unprofessional as it gets.

I like Napier, hopes he makes it, and am not advocating for Kiffin, but he is going to go big at some point, and I think he will be a huge success when he does.

And he fits our arrogant fan base to a tee.

Kif is nowhere near as clever as SOS's one liners. That's what rags most of SOS's opposing fans.

That's not what dolphin fans called Saban when he bailed. From the front office to the field he was pretty much considered to be a total ass.

I get why folks don't like Kiffin, but I look at his record at ole miss and it's impressive. It's not like he inherited a stacked team in Oxford either.
8-1 at ole miss this year, won 10 games in yr 2 and has a winning sec record in his 4 years there. That is far better than mullens record and a lot of the Kiffin haters loved the Mullen hire.

Hope the Napier hire works out, but if not, Kiffin would be fine by me. As earlier noted, I think his smartass attitude fits just fine with most Gators.....as long as he wins.

Saban was definitely a douchebag during his time as Dolphins coach. According to a former Dolphins player, Saban nonchalantly stepped over a player who was having a seizure and walked away. There are levels to douchebaggery and assholeness and Saban takes the cake.

This game is a nothingburger. It means nothing. It's the perfect time for Georgia to lose. It would affect nothing. They'll still win the East and Bama will still win the West. So refreshing.
