It was definitely EJ. He did well against Bama but once the blueprint on him was established, he was easy to defend.
Our W column would look a lot better this year with FSU’s schedule and they would not be undefeated with ours. I stand by that statement and you can believe otherwise. Okay by me.
I stand corrected you were referencing the regular season game following the seccg. My apologies. FTR bama in week 3 vs end of season is a different animal. Also at the time of dans termination (not after) there was a Grand Canyon chasm separating the programs that continued to widen
There is a lot of back and forth in this thread. Some believing churning coaches is a good thing until you hit on one. The overlooked issue is lack of relationships with high school coaches and kids that deteriorate with successive disruptions in continuity with serial staff replacements. Each coaching change burns 2 classes minimum with the advent of the ESD. The next coach starts with less than a full roster and struggles to establish inroads and boom year 3 hot seat rinse repeat. Many claim the portal, the portal there has been the portal light in states with Juco football and they cant name a single super successful program built on this model. The free agent portal model is for making a run not for building sustained success. Miss on several players or worse get a “bad apple” and your culture takes a hit big time. The NY Yankees would be the poster child for avoiding mass portal indulgence. Biggest payroll “best” players consistent under performance for the investment
Jimbo's last year Tag's 2 years Norvell's first 2 years 5 years of bad football is brief? PSU won big 10 once after Paterno. Other seasons were mediocre. PSU's records are comparable to Chump's 1-11 win season, butter's 2 East titles, and Mullen's first 3 years.
you need buy in from the admin to be play in the margins/ be on the "aggressive side" of rules interpretation or you take the high road .... Can't do both.
So.. who was the other candidate better than Napier clamoring to get here? Seeing the big picture is the beginning of wisdom, Crusher.
And there it is. I think Mullen stunk at recruiting and it is hard to dispute that. But for whatever reason, he did not recruit. That is not much disputed. His top ten classes were a joke really. I don't understand why he wouldn't recruit. But he could damn sure coach an offense, but refused to hire a decent defensive coordinator. Why? I dunno. The argument you just made for Mullen, I could make for McElwain. He recruited poorly his first two years, then was on fire in recruiting, but got canned. We have to be more patient.
Sample size = 1 Also lost to UK Lost to a bad LSU team Smoked by UGA Smoked by USCe Lost to Missouri But thank God we took Bama to the wire!!
Nothing i posted was meant to reference “playing in the margins” it was factual wrt to the different philosophies of acquiring athletes. Both have been used in the past one isn’t sustainable
Bama and Georgia have always went a bit past the margins so if I understand what you saying, that’s the way to be sustainable.
At least that is the proper direction for continued failures. You'll have to enlighten me about that, I see way too much of the opposite.
