Our gang tackling is reminiscent of our gang tackling Tommie Frazier, nonexistent.

Kind of. But no one that season could tackle those cornpickers. They smashed everyone, really, really badly. Look at their record.

It was Tommie Frazier not Lawrence Phillips that made us look bad. We just tackled him high and he carried multiple tacklers for extra yardage or just ran thru them. Similar to how we're tackling, now. No one goes low and takes their legs out from under them or just drills them like they should. When's the last time you've seen this team hit someone like Major Wright on Manny Johnson against Oklahoma or Brandon Spikes vs. Knowshon Moreno? Lots of arm tackling and no one wrapping up is our problem. Does this look familiar? It was sickening then, and to watch us tackle like this now is just as bad.

On too many plays the LB recognizes it but breaks down and waits rather than getting into the gap. By that time you are high and behind.

Maybe we can get little troy mic’d up ;)

Our LBs are the biggest deficiency of the defense. We need some portal LBs and/or our LB recruits to really shine next year or we'll be looking at the same thing we're seeing this year, and that's a scary thought.

Does this apply to our opponents thus far, who apparently have no issues tackling us?

Our S&C is atrocious! I would be up putting Brandon Siler or Spikes as S&C

We need some Testosterone infusion in the program.

I initially hit agree but took it back. He def takes plays off but I think it isn’t as often or maybe as obvious as some of Cox’s antics.

To me, correct technique, knowing your assignments and being in the correct position is all part of the football "culture". All those lead to a disciplined football team. If you are going to change the culture, start with players who do those things well and the rest will take care of itself.

Seems like every video I've seen in the pre-season showing tackling involves a large doughnut, not live tackling. I hope that is not what goes on for the entire practice.
Live tackling really gives you an idea of which players are willing to stick their noses in and which ones are likely to dive for ankles.

Just a small item, but we were bigger than Nebraska across the board. They beat us with discipline, misdirection and a speed advantage at key positions.

Are tackling is a problem and there is also a lot of guys overrunning plays in the secondary. Repeatedly.

Didn’t they remove Oklahoma drills from practices or was that High School? Wonder if there’s any correlation

And confidence in the guy behind you. Too many guys try to make the splash play instead of playing defense and relying on your teammates.

I don’t think it’s just UF that can’t tackle, it’s something every fan seems to be saying at some point about their team these days. The rules have changed, the way the game is taught is changed and I think the players’ mentality has changed. I don’t think a lot of guys want to hit hard anymore and cultural factors as well as the fear of CTE contributes to that. I remember playing in high school and the coaches wanted to hear our headgear pop the chest guard of the ball carrier, imagine that today.

Yes. Guys are reluctant to tackle, but the bigger issue is that we need more than one dude at the scene. We need them young dudes to keep running to the ball.
