So it's that time of the year for me. As of today, we have 81 players on scholarship, with just 6 outgoing seniors. That leaves us with a projected 75 players on scholarship. We currently have 22 in the HS class, which takes us to 97. Of course the limit is 85, so as of right now, we'll be losing 12 non-seniors that are currently on the roster. This is at a bear minimum, so the number of outgoing players could be relevant again. Not really my thing to speculate on who might transfer, just making the point that we're going to have one more mandatory purge to meet the numbers...and as of today, that number is 12.
Not sure who will declare for the nfl early, if any, but, that would have to factor into thus calculation, too.
I imaginen with emergence of Boardingham and Hansen at TE, that room will have 1-2 transfers. RB maybe lose one or two. Hopefully Etienne stays, he may feel slighted that Johnson gets all the starts even though Etienne is the better back. We know Kamari Wilson is gone at Safety. As usual, probably a few lineman will leave. The kicker who lost out to Smack may leave as he will never take over the tole. All quarterbacks not named Mertz will/should leave. They will never see the field with Mertz likely to return and Lagway heir apparent. Not sure we have any Juniors who would leave except maybe Montrell Johnson. Mertz will stay most likely to get a second year of good production, and hopefully develop a deeper ball. Napier won't through Lagway into starting role just to do it, so Mertz will be the starter with Lagway in Tebow like freshmen role.
Losing ETN because BN loves his guy despite the fact ETN is twice the back Montrell is would just be the icing on the cake of bad coaching weve seen.
Yeah I agree with most here (no shot ETN transfers). I think Princely probably leaves but I hope he doesn't. Maybe Jason Marshall does though I don't think he should.
Or Etienne could work on blocking and pass protection, two areas where he is deficient and come back next year as a clear #1. Does he want to do the hard thing or take the easy way out?
I would think the NFL would look at yards per carry over whether a player started. The easy solution over whether starting mattered would be to start one player one game, then the next player the next game. Players who aren’t panning out might be encourage to go in the portal.
Another sizable purge is definitely coming. It needs to be more than 12 to make room for portal shopping. Several areas are in desperate need of some quality portalets for next season.
Is the big guy on the bubble? He has to get his weight down if he wants any shot at the next level. Does he portal out? He is not going to get starter reps which only reduces his shot even more.
yup, my numbers don’t include any incoming transfers the coaches want/accept. who knows, we might end up with 20+ players leaving early
I have been pulling for the big guy. Honestly though he needs help not to play football but to live a long healthy life.
So this is just a guess, and not throwing shade at any players. Possible transfers out/NFL: DL/Edge Princley Umanmielen - NFL CB Jason Marshall - NFL TE Keon Zipperer (he can take a red shirt but IDK if he does) - transfer WR Ja'Qauvion Fraziars - transfer QB Jack Miller - transfer WR Thai Chiaokhiao-Bowman - transfer CB Ethan Pouncey - transfer DL Jaelin Humprhies - transfer WR Ja'Markis Weston - transfer OL Riley Simonds - transfer OL Jordan Herman - transfer DL Keenan Landry - transfer S Kamari Wilson - transfer That's 13 - picked them based on limited playing time, being passed on depth chart by younger guys, etc. Would be nice to have Zip back if its possible, but IDK anything about that. Also could be any number of OL on there that don't like what the depth chart looks like, especially if UF brings in transfers at offensive tackle. This is just a guess, I don't know anything.
