Who said this? “All Americans, not only in the states most heavily affected, but in every place in this country, are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country. The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. The public service they use impose burdens on our taxpayers. That's why our administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders more by hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before, by cracking down on illegal hiring, by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens. In the budget I will present to you we will try to do more to speed the deportation of illegal aliens who are arrested for crimes, to better identify illegal aliens in the workplace as recommended by the commission headed by former Congresswoman Barbara Jordan. We are a nation of immigrants. But we are also a nation of laws. It is wrong and ultimately self-defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years, and we must do more to stop it.”
30 years ago. Spent plenty of good money after bad in these decades. How successful have we been? Maybe instead of the insanity of doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results, we try something new. Like a Gang of 8 plan?
Then we upped spending on Customs and Border Patrol by 11x and built a ton of infrastructure on the border. Now, here you are with the same quote trying to convince people to....do it again! Because it didn't work last time, which is why we need to do it again. If we increase spending by 121x from 1995 (up to $54 billion per year this time), that will totally fix the problem.
Who said this? "I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally," or this? “Rather than talking about putting up a fence, why don't we work out some recognition of our mutual problems, make it possible for them to come here legally with a work permit,” Or this? "Illegal immigrants in considerable numbers have become productive members of our society and are a basic part of our work force. Those who have established equities in the United States should be recognized and accorded legal status. At the same time, in so doing, we must not encourage illegal immigration." Hint: He was the most popular Republic president in the last 50 years.
Lets see, I'm sure Clinton's remarks earned him some respect from his Republican opponents. And ... nope: https://www.washingtonpost.com/arch...-attack/118a9747-19ba-4106-881a-52c5a0745c5f/ A lot of this sounds familiar too lol:
What's the point of this ... "The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. -- Joe Biden has brought us near record low unemployment. That's why our administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders more by hiring a record number of new border guards, -- Joe Biden has brought us 4.5 x more boarder enforcement actions in 2022 than Trump's last year in office. by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before, -- Joe Biden has processed about 5x more deportation cases in 2022 than Trump's last year. by cracking down on illegal hiring, -- This in an area we need improvement. Lock up the Americans making the illegal hires. by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens. -- SNAP has never been available to illegal immigrants, and still isn't.
