Interesting. How are farts measured? That’s a new one to me. Do some politicians give 3/4 of a fart on some issues, and others 1/4 of a fart? Or do they all just fail to give 1/2 farts?

Come on. You don’t know and neither do I about percentages. But my instinct that most people are good people who try to do their jobs well. And that goes for all the most-criticized roles: politicians, police, media, teachers ….

 

I agree that most if not all go into it to help. But Washington gets its claws into you. You change. You wish to stay in power, the constituency falls down the list. If Congress was good people trying to do a good job, they would unanimously pass the law restricting themselves from trading stocks while they are in office. They would unanimously propose term limits on themselves.

 

I’m not referring to police, media, or teachers. I’m referring only to politicians, of which I have dealt with many at the municipal, state, and federal level.

If it makes you feel better, let’s just say that 75% are bad. Since you think all Republicans are corrupt, we only have to reach a little to get you concede that half of the Dems are.

One easy way to figure this out is look at the salaries of someone like Biden over his 50 years and ask yourself; “how did he get so wealthy”? It’s really no different (probably worse) at the municipal level.

Some things like term limits are simply a matter of opinion, not a clear cut good/bad. But I do agree that Congress does seem to corrupt in that posturing dysfunction seems to take priority over simply trying to do well.
I do think the presidents since Nixon and until Trump have been good people who tried to do what they thought was best for the country and with a respect for the people. GWB seemed intellectually detached, but Carter, Reagan, GHWB, Clinton and Obama would fall into that category.

As I've said before, I think the claim that "all politicians are like that" seems mostly an attempt to excuse the worst of them. Like Trump.
