Amazing that you are trying to pin this on the Democratic Party. Wow. McCarthy sealed his fate by going on TV Sunday blaming the Dems for the govt shutdown drama after they bailed him out. If he had any shot that surely guaranteed he wasn’t getting bailed out. He did nothing to earn their support. In fact, he sabotaged himself on purpose just to show that he WOULD NOT work with the Dems. This is on the Republicans.
How is it both parties? The Democrats have a a leader that is willing to take McCarthy's place. It's not their fault the GOP can't get their act in order.
What a mess. I think I said before that I would defer to Pelosi on counting the votes and the game theory analysis. It’s complex. Ultimately, I think this is more about McCarthy’s statements re: J6 - and possibly Ukraine - than it is about the debt or House budget procedures. Hard to know whether this is closer to power struggles and gamesmanship or whether it could be more long-lasting and structurally concerning.
both parties are more concerned about their side being in charge than solving the problems in a bipartisan manner. compromsie is a dirty word for both parties and people who support compromise for the greater good are ostracized.
So who is the moderate R the Dems are supposed to support so he/she can take charge ?? Just curious. It's certainly not McCarthy who doesn't deserve the position and has the trust of only a few at best. The same guy that opened Biden impeachment precedings and the Dems are supposed to support him? Get real.
GOP is a house of nuts. The “both sides” jokers are just intellectually lazy. McCarthy lost his power when he sold his soul just to be elected. This is all on him. It was inevitable.
You're not wrong but curious what constitutes the greater good these days? That's the 800 lb gorilla in politics.
Compromise to find practical solutions to real problems. Can't fundraise by stoking emotional fears that way though. Borders, spend more building safety andveconomic opportunities in the foreign countries. Implement a real guest worker program with sponsoring companies funding the program thatvrequires employers to provide housing and healthcare for visas lasting no more than a year. Employees send money home to help economy there grow sobthey have more opportunity to stay home. Solutions are there to be had but partisanship prevents then
What empowers and encouraged moderation is making deals. For example, a Dem seal that would keep a GOP speaker. But that didn’t and won’t happen. Instead, the fringe is empowered because they can remove the Speaker. Reality here: a few GOP and the Dems voted McCarthy out. The compromise to fund the government was no finding for Ukraine. The next Speaker will not be moderate. They might as well nominate Gaetz because he controls the House.
I think the Uni-Party gets along very well and works hard to keep everyone in power. The backdrop of this entire debacle has to do with professional Republicans rolling over and giving the Dems what they want. You can trace it back to Obamacare, which the voters did not want by a wide margin. In 2010, the Republican voters flipped 67 seats in their favor. They ran on repealing Obamacare/balancing the budget but did nothing. During Obama's 2nd term, the Republicans owned the Senate & House, but Obama never had to use his veto pen. This gave us Trump in 2016. The voters have now given us the WH, Senate, and House. Was Obamacare repealed? No. Was the budget balanced? No. Obamacare still exists, there has never been a budget, the border is wide open, our debt is astronomical and the economy sucks. Now, the conservative voter has to weed out the professional Pubs who don't follow through for what they hope is a true MAGA candidate. Gaetz is a hero to the MAGA base. This is an attempt to begin to get our finances in order, fix the economy, and close down the southern border. It's that simple. This is the only way real change will take place.
McCarthy was essentially canned for agreeing to the Continuing Resolution that prevented a government shutdown. The Democrats agreed to leave out funding for Ukraine in the resolution. That alone illustrates which party is amenable to compromise and which is not. I would concede that the overwhelmingly majority of Republicans did agree to the compromise although the ouster of McCarthy also illustrates that the party is so dysfunctional that it's essentially controlled by a small number of extremists although the balance of the party isn't that much better.
People didn't want Obamacare because it was packaged and sold to them as being some kind of evil. again, idiotic voters sold on sound clips filled with fear and demonization of the opposition. once in operation, people wanted obamacare and have kept it in one form or another with lots of benefits as the economy/work model evolves. neither party will ever balance the budget because it will involve goring some sacred ox's that will get them thrown out of office by the soundbite, entitled voters. Gaetz is a criminal clown and a sexual predator. He is an embarrassment to this country and the people that put him there. The fact that some look up to him confirms their lack of understanding of the issues and the appeal of the soundbite to these low info voters who want to hear what they want to hear and have no desire to finding solutions, just sounding off and fundraising on false info and fear. We got Trump because the dems ran Hillary and the media was fascinated with the blowhard, master of the misinformation soundbite the southern border has never been closed. Ever. if you want to decrease immigration, focus on solving the problems that are leading those people to risk life and limb to get out of the shithole, violence-stricken places they are desperate to escape from. set up real guest worker programs like all other advanced countries have so the worker, and the worker alone, can get legal access to come here and work and send money home to help develop the economy in their own countries. again, complicated issues that require in depth solutions that will not fit in a 30 second soundbite so the typical voter has no interest in hearing. Not to mention, neither party can fundraise off of solving the problem, just perpetuating the fear and loathing. Votes don't fund politicians that bring practical solutions, they fund fear and loathing of the other side, so that is what politicians, of both parties, provide.
That's no bueno, until they pull their collective heads out their asses, none of the other stuff will matter.
I forgot one thing also needed for a balanced budget, the elimination of all the loopholes that allow so many to pay so little. and to be honest, the politicians do what the voters want so it is the voters that need to pull their head out of their collective asses and quit electing soundbite politicians and invest the tiem and brainpower to understand the issues and reward those with solutions and not those who give snarky, soundbite responses to "own the otherside".
LOL, I think the voters are typically in favor of not spending us into oblivion but a hand full out of 535 in congress that don't, won't cut it. Those jokers could confiscate half of every American's money every year and still wouldn't be enough.
Seems to me that voters are typically in favor of reducing spending/balancing the budget, etc, just not in favor of cutting their pet projects/benefits. Let's cut the other guy's stuff or raise his taxes not mine.
