Who here would have rather kept Will Muschamp for the last decade? I would have. At least he was entertaining on the sidelines
I will say however that 3-2 was where I saw us at this point in the season, just flip flop the Tennessee and Kentucky results.
Nothing exciting or trending about the Gators. New coach in two years. Back to the same drawing board.
Give Kentucky credit too. Well coached and they played with a lot of poise. Their fans also deserve credit for making their presence known. We have a LOT of work to do ourselves - but the Wildcats deserve a lot of credit as well....
I didn’t like the Napier higher, and I don’t believe Napier will ever be the coach that Florida needs. I’ve noticed one thing about great coaches, they always coach their teams to be consistent (jokes about our consistently bad play aside). Once they are playing consistently, then they coach for excellence. In two years we should have seen some consistency and we have it.
Stricklin would never pull the plug after 2 seasons, as he is on the hook with this hire. Napier and Stricklin will stay or go together.
So where exactly have we shown improvement? Recruiting is the only area I can think of but he’s shown nothing to this point to show us he knows what to do with them. We are making the same mistakes over and over. And over and over. We are a bad football team. We won against McNeese and Charlotte. Looked bad against Charlotte. Honestly would have lost had the talent gap not been so huge. We look lethargic. No emotion. Showed up unprepared and not ready to play. And don’t even get me started on ST. This is coaching. Or a lack of it. Personally Billy’s aww shucks schtick is starting to wear thin on me.
I would feel much better about this team if there was something, anything great about it. Muschamp had Defense, Mac had Defense until the year he was fired and a glimpse of Offense when we had Grier. Mullen had Offense, and a couple good defensive performances in the first two years. Napier? Just recruiting rankings but you don’t see stars on gameday. Defense is better, but frankly I laughed when I heard someone say the Florida defense has played at an elite level this year. They’ve been this team’s strength, but nowhere close to elite. Of our predecessors, the one he resembles the closest to me is Zook based on sheer strengths and weaknesses.
I never expected this year's team to compete for a national title. But I did expect they would be better disciplined and play more sound football. I figured losses would pile up, but expected to look better and be a little more competitive in those losses. This team is just flat out bad. The big leap in year two because everyone knows the system and what is expected of them has not materialized. At times they look like The Bad News Bears. This all happens with such a massive staff to monitor and prepare for every minute detail. Something is broken and needs to be fixed. Wrong number of players on the field, false starts, special teams, personal fouls, etc... those should be basics by now. I hope this stuff gets corrected quickly because if we lose homecoming to Vandy, coach is gonna be feeling that hot seat and pressure like never before. I can only imagine what is being said right now. I
