    Why have sanctions then? The exchange did cost the US. Foreign adversaries can now kidnap Americans and know the US will cave.

    So that person can go to Iran if they want, but don't expect the US to pay whatever is asked if that person gets kidnapped. Or send money and have the family move to the US. Sure, many people visit some of these countries on the do not travel list. You think the US just throws out those "Do Not Travel" advisories for shits and giggles?

    We should also let lost hikers just die in the woods too. I mean most trails tell you to not go off the main trail and if they do.. screw them. Let em die. I love it man. Who else should we condemn to death? This is fun.

    More like not evacuating during a hurricane. We will come get you when/if it's safe, but you are taking your life into your own hands by making that decision.

    Some of the captives have redacted names. That makes me think they were cia or contractors to the cia or the NIS

    While I agree that's a real possibility according to the news stories at the time their release was negotiated the names of those captives was not made public at the request of their families.

    I read that too. Not sure if it is factual or not. Or if they are spies their unnamed family might still make the request. I have been unable to find when and why we seized the oil/money.

    The funds were frozen oil proceeds. This was done in 2018 by Trump because he regarded them as terrorists.

    Trump didn't all of sudden call Iran terrorists. That happened in 1984.

    I didn't say Trump "all of sudden call" (SIC) them terrorists. I said he "regarded" them as terrorists and wanted to punish them by seizing oil proceeds and depositing them in S. Korea. He was not necessarily wrong in doing that, nor was Biden in releasing the funds back to Iran in exchange for the prisoners.

    I'm done with this topic. Your and others' position is not without merit. I just don't agree with it.

    He regarded them as terrorists because they've been labeled a terrorist country since 1984. Simple as that.
