Since that was originally posted, CJR did not bring in a transfer. Hopefully it means she is feeling good about Morgan's participation in the 2024 season.

May/June/July are a blur to me. After my father passed away in February, my mother had a stroke on May 4th, then passed away on May 15th. From time to time I might post/repost old news, repeat or ask questions that have already been discussed during these months...

I'm so sorry you had to go through the pain of losing both your father and mother in such a short time frame. I was wondering why you weren't around.

While you were away, I took a straw poll on keeping the other thread running or opening a new thread for the 2023-24 year. It was unanimous that we have a new thread and to try to post gymnastics news and updates here. I hope you are okay with this since you didn't get to express yourself.

Just so you know, the other thread was regularly updated so you can fill in the gaps of what you missed when you have some time to read the last 6 or 7 pages, basically after the NCAA national championships.

Back to Morgan Hurd, I think UF would be doing really well if she can give her best on 3 events rather than risk further elbow injury on the bars which would end her season and maybe her career. Morgan is capable of delivering 9.9+ on vault, beam, and floor when healthy. I'm sure CJR would happily accept scores around 9.9 and a healthy Morgan Hurd. Yes, I'm an optimist so sue me. :)

So sorry to hear about your losses. That is a tough thing to go through.

That was a horrible stretch for you. I am sorry. It feels as though there is less to protect us from the universe when both of our parents pass. Best wishes to you as you burn your new trail.

Sorry for your losses. So hard losing one parent. I can't imagine losing both in a matter of a few months.

    SEC Potential Lineups Part 2:

Potential Lineups: SEC Part II - College Gym News

Georgia is trending up in 4 events and Mizzou is trending up in 3 events.

After reading parts 1 & 2, it could be there are several teams better than UF:

    1. LSU - Head and shoulders the SEC preseason top team and likely #2 in the nation until someone proves they can unseat Oklahoma. The Tigers have a strong, experienced, and deep lineup.

    2. Kentucky - Loaded with returning veterans coming off injury, the return of All-American Raena Worly, and a strong freshman class. The Wildcats could be the second-best team in 24.

    3. Alabama - Luisa Blanco is back and is surrounded by a strong nucleus of performers including the #1 recruit in the 23 class, Jamison Spear. I almost listed UK and bama as 2T.

These are the teams capable of sliding the Gators down in the SEC for one season. Will it happen? I don't know, but it will be fun to watch what CJR can do with this team which will not come into the 24 season as 1 or 2 in the nation and not first in the SEC.

UF's 23 class is ranked #4 in the nation behind Georgia, Stanford and LSU:

    - College Gym News

tiger droppings gymnastics is an excellent site for LSU gymnastics. I haven't read it lately, but I have read that they want her concentrating on gymnastics rather than money. If she is done, it is a new thing. She is so big in NIL that it would be all over the news if she hung up her LSU leotard.

Thank you for your kind words. When I read about your great news re: being cancer free, I said to myself Finally some good news about someone's health! I've never met you, but reading that really lightened up my day and helped motivate me to get back on social media.

As for Hurd, I read (but have not confirmed) that the surgery was very minor and they should be ready to go in '24. They do have a hands-free Beam routine and their hands hit the mat only once in their 2 tumbling passes on Floor. I will be surprised to see them perform on Vault or Bars in 2024.
    Note-Morgan's pronoun preferences are they/their/them

UF Hosted Four 5 Star Gymnasts Over the Weekend!

Dr. Sam, PhD on X: "Wow, @GatorsGym hosted a four ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️s for an official visit this weekend: No. 1 Kamila Pawlak No. 2 Mackenzie Estep No. 4 Nina Ballou No. 6 Jocelyn Sasson https://t.co/cMsTiUsJQK" / X (twitter.com)

To put this in perspective, there are only 13 5-star gymnasts in the 2025 class. College Gym News rankings:

    - College Gym News

    1. Kamila Pawlak - Club: Metroplex (TX)
    2. McKenzie Estep - Club: Ascend (WA)
    4. Nina Ballou - Club: American Twisters (FL)
    6. Jocelyn Sasson - Club: Ascend (WA)

Tiger Droppings posters think Ballou will come down to UF and LSU.

UF does well with Texas gymnasts, so we'll see how it goes with Pawlak. Tiger Droppings posters are not optimistic.

Estep and Sasson are from Ascend in Washington state. A clue here may be that Ascend is the club where Shilese Jones is training. It's probably optimistic to think Estep and Sasson are being directed to UF by Shilese or they would want to come to UF because of Shilese.

What a way to kickoff 25 class recruit visits. Great job by CJR and staff. It was a terrific weekend to be visiting with Tennessee football and Wisconsin volleyball playing at UF.

Jasmine Cawley who did not visit this weekend is the #3 ranked 5-star gymnast coming out of Brandy Johnson's (FL). This should give UF an inside edge. She is originally from Maine so no home state top program plus she has been in central Florida since 2019.

Considering all of the talent that comes out of Texas, why doesn't Texas or A&M have gymnastics programs?

LSU has 11 meets before SECs without a Friday-Sunday two-meet weekend (they have traditionally scheduled one every year). They also have 7 home meets. I wonder if we will have 11 meets this year, or will Jenny have a bye-week scheduled in?

The only Texas school with a Gymnastics program is a Division 2 school Texas Women's University.
