“Anecdotally” clarified it wasn’t proof or data. However twitter usage has crashed..that’s data driven.

    We need more baskets

Just weeks before closing its doors and dismissing thousands of employees, Yellow doled out millions of dollars in bonuses to executives so they wouldn’t leave the trucking firm during its chaotic unraveling, court papers show.

Yellow paid bonuses totaling about $4.6 million to eight current and two former executives in the weeks before the company went bankrupt with plans to liquidate, according to corporate disclosures in Delaware bankruptcy court. The figure is higher than it would have been had Yellow managed to avoid a sudden bankruptcy filing, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Of the bonuses disbursed, nearly $2 million paid on July 14 were approved by Yellow’s board in June — when the company was in trouble, but before it was considering filing for bankruptcy, according to the person. Yellow’s public feud with a union representing much of its workforce escalated days later, when a strike notice prompted the company’s customers to take their business elsewhere, Yellow has said.

The remaining bonuses paid on July 31 became necessary, then, as Yellow planned for a bankruptcy filing that would be used to repay creditors and wind down, according to the person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private deliberations. The company’s fleet of trailers, trucking terminals and other assets — all of which would need to be sold quickly and at the highest prices possible — had previously been valued at roughly $2.1 billion. A fire sale could seriously reduce the prices they fetched.

Yeah... now you know how important the "narrative" or the "messaging" is in the real world... It's everything.

This is basically how all businesses operate, its not even exceptional. Just enrich your board and shareholders before the house of cards collapses, move on to the next "opportunity."

Yep. And without shame. Decades ago an article like this would cause an uproar. They would feel the need to keep the exploitation secret. But too much abstract propaganda about shareholder value without considering stakeholders or reality, and too much money in politics for government to be a protector

People talk about the "creative destruction" of capitalism being a good thing, well this is what that is

Will disagree. Creative destruction can be pure market. This is exploiting a breakdown in self interest through class solidarity. The wealthy protect their own even if economically irrational

According to the link they paid the same sort of retention bonuses that get paid during a takeover/restructuring. Its all just the same playbook, whether the firm is in good shape or bad. Cut jobs, strip mine the assets, cash out and move on.

Musk says Twitter, now X, is moving to monthly subscriptions (cnbc.com)

Sounds like the final nail in the coffin ... Musk is saying that soon everyone will have to buy a low tier subscription ... Even if it's just a couple bucks, how many people are going to pay that when (a) there are other free options and (b) the average user just posts non-important junk anyway. 80% of twitter accounts have 10 or less followers, so you are mostly just posting into oblivion.
