Comprehension problems? I didn’t say that trump was better. I didn’t say that I wanted trump. Clearly for some if you cannot make a decent argument you fall back on
    But Trump
Even when but trump is an asinine position to take.
    Good grief.

Protecting small states was never a consideration for the founding fathers though (going to set aside the 3/5ths compromise as that’s a can of worms). The EC was agreed upon as a last option because they couldn’t agree on anything else. The entire debate revolved around fear of too much executive power and how to ensure they didn’t get an executive wielding too much power. They thought rural voters were too ignorant or could get swept up in voting for a populist candidate and didn’t trust Congress to elect the President due to close ties. I’m not going to even get into its ties to perpetuating slavery. There is zero valid reason, IMNSHO, to not elect based on popular vote.

Here’s a read on its history for those that haven’t seen it.

    Thanks.

Even if protecting small states was never part of the original intention, it is at least a potential benefit of the system. One of the original intents to prevent people from directly voting is basically dead as the electors are basically formalities at this point. After that, I can only see drawbacks to the system. Well also the counting of electoral votes virtually ensures there is no tie. But all this comes with a tremendous cost under its current iteration.

Exactly how does the EC protect small states? I get it for the senate, but not EC. The electoral college effectively gives swing state voters more power in terms of electing the president. There isn’t really a lot of rhyme or reason to it.

Technically speaking, it gives them disproportionate representation, but practically speaking, it really doesn't because, as you said, presidential candidates care about swing states.

Im saying the same thing as lawyer. The EC could give small states more voter power, but under winner take all, it does not. If one’s argument for the EC was about protecting small states, one seemingly should support removing the winner take all aspect that most states employ. Then there would be no such thing as swing states.

The $ is now going to Haley to beat Trump, and the GOP handlers are moving Ron out of the way. Ron cannot win, so in slides the empty vessel Haley. A woman who has no true position of her own. She is a female Mitt Romney. CNN (the official state media of the U.S. State Dept.) loves her (hence the puff piece and poll) and says that only she could defeat Biden. This is so far from the truth. I predict her to fall harder than Ron. She is a career phony politician who will not fool the MAGA crowd.

Then you have Noem throwing her support behind Trump? She is backed by the Koch brothers who have so far spent $70 million to defeat Trump.

Best news I’ve heard in a long time!!
Haley being compared to Romney is a very good thing for me. Nikki should be able to beat Biden or Newsome.

RD has been a surprisingly bad candidate and plummeted in polls by his own making.

Nikki fall harder than Ron?! Nikki has stayed in single digits and hasn’t really gotten close to 10. So yes, she’ll loose a couple of points in single digits

The typical GOP base voter ain't leaving the house to vote for Nimrata. One of her opponents will dig up a tape of her dancing to a Bollywood song on her 16th birthday and that will be the end of her bid.

A Washington Post/FiveThirtyEight/Ipsos survey found that the share of Republican primary voters who said they were considering voting for Haley jumped from 29 percent before the debate to 46 percent after they watched it, the biggest improvement of any of the candidates on stage.

Driving through a nearby neighborhood this morning…I made an interesting discovery.
Somebody had a Nikki Haley for President sign in their front yard.
I pointed it to my wife with great delight!

Hot take as I read and watch New Hampshire unflod. Nikki Haley will be our next president...america is tired of the old and Biden would not beat her if she moderates on abortion, which she will do post primary

Haley got a bounce post-debate and her criticism of Trump and the GOP for helping run up the debt was often featured. DeSantis may have been talking about that before and I missed it, but hes' definitely been hitting on it recently, maybe trying to borrow that page out of her playbook.

Unless Nikki Haley can shoot someone on Fifth Avenue without losing support she is fighting an uphill battle.. She is a terrible a candidate but she isnt a crazy person trying to tear down democracy like Ronald and mc Donald duo.
