Correct. I’m all for giving CBN time. But many posters are acting like he can have 3 straight losing seasons into 2025. That’s just ridiculous

He effectively needs to win 15 games in 23 and 24 combined. That is a pretty easy task but it’s the measuring stick

Im guessing it will be Mertz for 24 with DJ getting play time to prep for 25.

Norvell also coaches in the Almost Competitive Conference where their perennial contender got waxed by Duke. The noles literally have not even 25% of the schedule we do in terms of difficulty. Heck, in their 10 win season our under .500 team nearly beat them on the road and gave them one of their toughest games. Not even close to a fair comparison.

Plus norvell can take advantage of their schedule but they aren’t going to have sustainable talent of the contenders to actually win the national title. He doesn’t recruit high school well enough and relies on the portal too much. Kind of like our last coach. Jmo.

    Agreed.

Don't look now but the Nolies are doing well in the HS recruiting rankings this year. If he was using the portal as a bridge, it appears to be working.

Personally, I don't care where we get the talent as long as it comes here. Ignoring the College football equivalent of free agency to fill obviously needed gaps to focus only on HS talent is foolhardy. Particularly when you are trying to build a foundation.

I’ve said this several times before, believe it now more than ever. Billy has a monster money game to open the 24 season. Miami @ home in the vaunted Swamp is a must win / absolutely can’t lose game, imho. The aftermath would be nuclear, Chernobyl like.

Ya, that would not be a good look. I think most of us would be happy to see progress this year going into next year with the expectation that we are the better team come the Miami game. What I mean is not so much win/loss record this year or even next, although that would be great too, but seeing a team playing with fundamentals, dare I say it a more exciting brand of offense, and an aggressive defense.

I think most of us would be far more patient if we see that.

People are talking about drawing conclusions from this season. Based on a single season opening road game.

Others are looking ahead to 2024 and trying to visualize outcome of games against opponents who are also changing every year.

Now, I'm all for playing "what if" in your mind. And, if anywhere, a sports focused internet forum should be the place for that sort of wide ranging speculation and sound boarding.

But, at the same time, these sorts of arguments are not being made in an anodized vacuum environment. People don't always come to such discussion with a dispassionate analytical mindset. And when that happens it can tend to come off as a less than well hinged fanbase.

Not trying to call anyone out, or discourage anyone from speaking their minds, just suggesting another perspective.

Dude has been set up with probably the toughest schedule for a rebuild. I think someone mentioned maybe 50% of the schedule has been top 25 teams up to this point.

We’ve seen the off the field progress and that will continue.
Now I think it’s fair for fans to expect to see some improvements on the field this year. Defense showed some.

I don’t get the impression that BN won’t make changes if things don’t improve in certain areas. I think there may be a desire in him to see more data points before he makes a decision. So i don’t expect a staff shake up this season.

I do think he will hire an OC after this season.

    Just my stupid opinion.

Didn't he also flake out and cancel a few games during our Trask season? I know I was pissed that we didn't get to hang 50 or more on them suckers that year. Covid gave them an excuse to avoid several serious ass whippings.

Don't know if that was Norvel, but certainly the University as a whole decided that discretion was the better part of valor at least once in 2020.

I think Miami is a deceptively good situation because their name carries a lot of cache but they might not actually be all that good. If you beat them it will mean a lot, even if they end up going 7-5 or something.

Norvell is in his 4th year, his first 2 years sucked. scUM and UCF both won, beating the power houses of Miami of Ohio and Kent State.
You want to go without any OL coach???
The Dazzler to the 2009 Gators to an undefeated regular season being a crapping OC just proves that anyone can look good as an OC if you have great players.

They ducked every decent opponent on their schedule. Even ducked clemson after making them travel all the way to tallacrappy.

I think we need to focus on 2023 and not have a pre-meltdown about 2024. Geez
