I truly want to give Billy the time he needs to build a Dynasty. SOS said he expected 7 wins this year (he also sings the praises of the walk on QB) FSU is in the 3rd year of their new coach. Miami is in their 2nd. UCF has had Gus for a few years, just is painful to see all of them winning, and listening to their fan base. We have an amazing recruiting class, next year, but not sure how many of them will be ready to start? 2025 class could be just as good, if not better. I hope we don't lose next year's class because of this on field performance.... But when I look at next year's schedule, probably the hardest in the Nation, will the administration give Billy until the 2025 season? I'd gladly give up the two O line coaches for a OC. Imagine if SOS could take some plays off his bathroom wall (Restaurant reference) and be our OC... A Fan can dream. My Bama friend says Dan Mullen will be their OC next year. Guy can call plays, just couldn't be bothered with anything else.
Napier can’t have a sub-par year in 2024 and preach patience. It is a brutal schedule and no one is expecting a NC, but improvement in organization, play, and the win column is warranted in a coach’s third season.
Alabama just hired a new OC so I doubt they have another new one next year, and the idea of Dan Mullen working with Nick Saban is hilarious.
If 2023 and 2024 are sub-par and Napier is preaching patience before the 2025 season, all I’m gonna say is good luck with our top boosters and donors.
He needs to win 9+ in 2024 He has the leash for 2023 but in CFB nobody needs 4+ years to turn it around But none of this is surprising. Any major P5 coach has similar challenges. If Brian Kelly wins 10 games combined over the next 2 seasons his seat would be super hot. If Norvell has a losing season this year he may even be fired
Norvell is in his 4th year. How would your Bama friend have any idea who their OC will be next year? No sense worrying about 2024 until we see the lay of the land after 2023.
Wouldn't that be the definition of patience though? Have you begun discussions with agents for candidates yet or are you holding firm to giving him one more year?
Again, if 2023 and 2024 are sub-par and Napier is preaching patience and trusting the process before the 2025 season, things are gonna get difficult between him and the big boosters.
So? Billy is one game into his second season. He’s not even half way to the end of his third season to make it a true comparison. At the same point in their tenures, Norvell was coming off a 3-6 season. And to add more context… in his second season, Norvell started out 0-4 incliding a home loss to Jacksonville State in game 2. Let’s pump the brakes and make apples to apples comparisons. Edit: @Matthanuf06 was actually pointing this out. I misread his post. Apologies!
