THAT IS BAD COACHING... seriously, how can anyone have this mentality in CFB? We just need to loose a couple to get our minds right? Am I taking crazy pills?
Some people need to watch Swamp Kings. There is a reason why Meyer had near instant success at 4 different programs
They didn’t forget to factor in special teams. They had a plan in place. One kid is supposed to change jerseys when he goes in on ST and he didn’t. This isn’t all that uncommon in college. The player had a brain fart, and the guy in the booth keeping track of this did too. Somebody has to catch this before the snap though. Too many people on the sideline for nobody to notice.
Here’s a nuts idea: “Kid, I know you want to be ‘3’ and all. But we’ve already got a ‘3.’ Beat him out this year, and you can be ‘3’ instead. Meanwhile, here is a list of 15 unused numbers, and you can have any of them.”
I’m fine with it. Put on some gloves and go take your number. Every team has dup numbers though, and lots of teams have kids that have to change jerseys for st’s.
They have even had to reprint them .... Since noone has mentioned it yet. This is not the first time we have had an incident with the #3 jersey this year.
You have a bad line , zero running game and sacks waiting to happen. Hold the ball an extra second and it’s just another sack. Mertz was a bright spot along with our receivers. If you can’t see that, I’m not sure another beer would hurt.
Brain farts determine the outcomes of a lot games, even in the NFL. Shit happens. I’d like no dup numbers on gameday rosters too, but every team in college has them, and lots of teams have kids that wear multiple numbers during games.
That’s true in this day of entitlement and soft feelings. Give the kid his own number and tell him to get over it. It doesn’t matter what color uniforms we wear or any of that dumb shit. Doing your job should be the only priority. Kids are inexperienced and they will get better and make less mistakes but the notion of two rbs going over 1k each I believe is gone.
On STs: 1. two number 3s 2. 8 men on the field for a FG 3. Fielded punt inside the 5 4. Shanked a punt How many of those unforced errors did Utah have? 1 of them happening can be attributed to randomness. 4 of them happening out of like 15 non kickoff ST plays? That’s not random, that’s a trend
Not a chance Matt. Probably 3/4 of our team from last year is gone. How many freshmen played for Utah last night?
Our special teams were just awful. I think it is absolutely clear that we need to fire our special teams coach. Oh, wait ….
There was a lot of off-season discussion when Mertz came to UF about his issue with sacks at Wisconsin. Many pointed out that he had a tendency to hold the ball and not get rid of it. I saw that tendency still last night. I think he tossed it away once.
Yup, no play-calling in the world is going to scheme you out of a bad OL. Aside from a few questionable plays (Zanders inside on 4th down, ahem) it wasn't really an issue given what we were working with. With that said, lack of urgency and organization was a different story...
Dude, one game is not a trend. And before you say it, forget about last year - this is a different team
Well they did have a third string QB get a ton of snaps. Yeah we had some young guys but we also have handful of super experienced transfers playing. On O we have maximum experience at QB and WR#1, great experience at RB. Defense we had heavy experience across most positions.
When pressure comes at you that quick it's not that easy to toss it away without drawing intentional grounding. It didn't look like he had a realistic chance to avoid the rush most of the time, either.
