My subdivision has all underground utilities. It can be done wherever, it's just a lot more expensive.

Lost my dock on the SGI to Dennis I think Keaton and Dekle Beach are going to get blasted by this one
I can relate as we are in south Lee. We had shutters, wife didn't like riding out storms and not being able to see what was happening so we went with rated windows when we replaced ours. Left for Irma, stayed for Ian. still use shutters for most windows.
yes, but when flooded with salt water, it creates lots of problems. lines in Collier County that i worked on had insulation failures where water saturated the wire and cause corrosion problems they are still finding and replacing. the PSC does not allow FPL to add the increase to pay for underground to protect from hurricanes to the fpl rate base either. as a developer, you have to pay extra for underground unless you are a big commercial user and the use profits will offset the install cost
Just had a feeder band come through our backyard in Broward with some SERIOUS gusts. One of the pool deck umbrellas (closed) was blown over - yeah, we didn't do any hurricane prep - and fell into the pool. But not just the umbrella, took the 50 lb. concrete base in with it. 10 minutes later, it's calm as can be...
Dang it! Sitting here in the Dallas airport on my way to SLC and having just sneaked out of Panama City the thought occurred to me that the cabin on the Suwannee River I have reserved for mid September might not even be there after tomorrow. Dang it, again.
"Left for Irma, stayed for Ian." Same here. Being able to see what's going on outside is very helpful. During Ian, we watched for flooding both in front of and behind our house. We had no flooding fortunately. Boarding the windows with plywood was terrible. We couldn't see anything going on outside. And, after the storm, we needed to take down the boards before we could get sunlight and fresh air into the house.
I hope everyone stays safe and dry. It’s weird that it looks like Wilmington is gonna get more of an impact than DeLand.
Duke just buried the power lines on my street. It was using some build back better money. Thanks Biden.
Regarding impact windows- we used to live in FtL and everyone we knew had either impact windows or shutters. We actually had both on a large picture window that blew in during Wilma. Moved to the Tampa area and almost no one we know has either including us (tho we are far inland). If TB ever gets a direct hit it will be catastrophic.
This thing keeps tracking west and gaining intensity. Tampa seems spared (again), but Tallahassee is in the threat zone.
