I remember hanging on to our phones when our daughter was in school in Boston, hiding out in a restaurant just blocks from where the bomb went off at the marathon years ago. We told her not to go anywhere until they found that guy. Of course she walked back to her dorm.

Fortunately, the boy plays baseball and when things started to unfold, he and a few other players high-tailed it to the baseball stadium. Pretty much a fortress, so no concern for them, but still lots of worries for others.

A friend of mine's son is a phd student there and had to shelter in place for three hours. He said the shooter was a grad student and went killed his professor. It seemed like more of an outright murder than a random shooter situation.
