  3. Since there is nothing else to talk about...Here is how Graham Mertz stands among the starting QBs on the schedule in 2023 based on some other site's ranking.
    • #6. Jayden Daniels, LSU 2022 stats: 2,913 yards, 68.6%, 17 TDs, 3 INTs 144.5 RAT
    • #7. Jordan Travis, Florida State 2022 stats: 3,214 yards, 64%, 24 TDs, 5 INTs 160.1 RAT
    • #8. Cam Rising, Utah 2022 stats: 3,034 yards, 64.7%, 26 TDs, 8 INTs 149.0 RAT
    • #11. Spencer Rattler, South Carolina 2022 stats: 3,026 yards, 66.2%, 18 TDs, 12 INTs 138.7 RAT
    • #15. K.J. Jefferson, Arkansas 2022 stats: 2,648 yards, 68%, 24 TDs, 5 INTs 165.2 RAT
    • #16. Joe Milton, Tennessee 2022 stats: 971 yards, 64.6%, 10 TDs, 0 INTs 204.3 RAT
    • #17. Carson Beck, Georgia. 2022 stats: 310 yards, 71.4%, 4 TDs, 0 INTs 186.4 RAT
    • #18. Devin Leary, Kentucky 2022 stats: 1,265 yards, 61.1%, 11 TDs, 4 INTs 130.9 RAT
    • NR. Graham Mertz, Florida 2022 stats: 2,136 yards, 57.3%, 19 TDs, 10 INTs 135.0 RAT
    • NR. Brady Cook, Missouri 2022 stats: 2,739 yards, 64.8%, 14 TDs, 7 INTs 133.2 RAT
    • NR. Ken Seals, Vanderbilt 2021 stats: 1,181 yards, 56.7%, 5 TD, 8 INT 101.2 RAT
    • NR. Jalon Jones, Charlotte 2022 stats: 2,341 yards, 58.4%, 13 TD, 7 INT 126.0 RAT
    • NR. Knox Kadum, McNeese 2022 stats: 964 yards, 50.0%, 6 TD, 10 INT 99.9 RAT
Based on rating alone, Mertz would likely be ranked as the 8th or 9th best QB on Florida's schedule. For comparison, Anthony Richardson's stats would rank him around the same place as Graham Mertz unless we swapped out QBR for passer rating, since QBR factors in rushing yards, sack yards, etc.
    • Anthony Richardson, Florida 2022 stats: 2,549 yards, 53.8%, 17 TDs, 9 INTs, 131.0 RAT
I just realized now that Jalon Jones is that guy who was with Florida for a semester in 2019. I am not sure if Knox Kadum will be the starter, but he has the best QB stats on the McNeese roster.

It isn't about the other QBs, it is all about the quality of the pass rush and to a lesser extent, the quality of the back 7 in covering. Do that and we don't care who is their QB.

Dline depth and the "graduation" of some questionable talent at safety and LB have me optimistic.

I don't remember how vandy (be if from age or heavy drinking during the game), but they did score 31 on us and converted 50% of their 3rd downs. I imagine many of those 108 yards converted 3rd downs to 1st, Hence Mahomes-esque.
possibly he likes/agrees with the comment, not the results.

I was thinking the OL that can keep the QBs uniform clean all game long.

If you mean that we can score enough points to change what the other team can do on offense then this is fine. The thread is mainly about what an opposing QB can do to us, presumably when the game is still in doubt.

Not sure how anyone puts Rattler ahead of Jefferson when KJ has him beat in every category but yards lol. Especially when you take into account his rushing numbers.

Not sure how Carson Beck is rate so much higher then Graham Mertz when his only experience is in garbage time against scrubs while playing on the talent rich roster of the back to back champs. Gives us no true measuring stick of his capabilities , even more so when you take into account he only had 310 yards passing.... in mop up duty against scrubs. At least Mertz was a starter playing a full season slate against P5 teams. Devin Leary's #'s look average too and he played in a weak ACC.

Can't wait for Mertz to.prove the doubters wrong and show them why he was so highly regarded coming out of HS. Hope he starts his gator career off like he did his 1st game as a badger throwing for 5 TD's against Illinois as a true freshman.

  10. Agreed. The other site did not explain their rationale and I was too lazy to come up with my own ranking system. There must be a way to rack and stack these QBs better, but the main takeaway is that Mertz is middle of the pack at best until he proves otherwise in a new offense.

A lot of people do for some reason...

KJ might be the best QB on UF's schedule, he just isn't surrounded by the talent that Travis and Daniels have. Pittman probably learned he needs to lean a little less heavily on KJ to keep him healthy. If he didn't learn that lesson then he's not relevant to this thread because the Gators will be facing Arky's backup QB by the time they roll into the swamp.

I think you’re correct. He’s definitely the best/most experienced when it comes to SEC play. The transfer at UK is intriguing. The untested kid at UGA has potential. But Jefferson is the most battle-tested. I think we fall into the trap of only considering sec East players.

Yeah I’m not sure if Enos will run the QB near as much as Briles did. But to your point, Arkansas would have beaten LSU last year with just decent backup QB play once Jefferson got hurt. Even with a better backup this year it’s going to be a step down from KJ.

Vandy had an underrated RB last year named Ray Davis. I believe he had a pretty good game. Davis is now at Kentucky and should have a really nice season this year

You could tell me he looked like the second coming of Dan Marino and Joe Montana and I wouldn't argue...even if its false...we lost to Vandy...shame shame shame. No hiding from that stink.

2 of those passes converted 3rd downs to 1st downs. One additional was a TD. So 3. Very mahomesish
