So what exactly is your take on that, that PP should ask more questions to determine if someone is being trafficked?

 

Based on this part of the story, it seems like a good idea to include that as part of the training. Being able to recognize the signs of trafficking and knowing what questions to ask.

Lederer explained, “Since pimps and traffickers generally exercise nearly complete control of their victims, these points of contact with healthcare represent rare opportunities for victim identification and intervention.”

 

The irony if there is any truth to this is that right wing attacks and regulations on PP probably are the reason that they are extra cautious when it comes to gathering information from patients.

 

I certainly don’t disagree with that. Same with the emergency departments that the story says are used more than community clinics.

 

Well I'm sure getting rid of PP will turn those sex traffickers into upstanding family men and not have them force back-alley abortions on their victims.

A couple of comments. First, the author of the article is anti-abortion activist who I would guess has a strong animosity towards Planned Parenthood. Secondly, the young woman cited as an example went to multiple clinics and according to her own statement she only went to a Planned Parenthood clinic once although from the title of the article one would get the impression that Planned Parenthood Clinics were the sole of source of medical care received by victims of trafficking.

 

They know their audience though, don’t they?

 

I read awhile back that they're pushing training for hotel staff. Could misremember but seem to recall that perhaps the training was being required by DBPR?

I wonder if this is a situation where you'd rather someone be able to get treatment without a lot of questions being asked so at least they are getting treatment. If a trafficer thinks they run the risk of being caught, they won't bring their victim in at all. Shitty situation, but I certainly understand if that is the case.

Florida passed Human Trafficking, Chapter 2019-152, Laws of Florida, which establishes new profession requirements including newly required signs, CE/CME, and more for the following professions: Acupuncture, Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, Chiropractic Medicine, Podiatric Medicine, Optometry, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing Home Administration, Occupational Therapy, Dietetics and Nutrition, Respiratory Care, Massage Therapy, and Physical Therapy.

The Department has launched an informational website that includes a breakdown of the new law and addresses areas of: (1) signs; (2) CE/CME; (3) FAQs; (4) Specific Board of Massage requirements; and (5) Human Trafficking Reporting.
