Any intel on gatherings in SLC for the opener? Hard to believe we’re getting close to that 30 day countdown…I’ll be there and hope to see strong showing

I changed your title a little because I initially didn't know what the SLC was. What group? Which conference? LOL! :)

That’s what happens when you travel too much…you think of cities as airport identifiers. Thanks for changing

It's hard to imagine that there's anything going on in SLC that's more enjoyable than whipping Utah's butt would be. But I don't get out much anymore, so there is that.:p

Headed out. Still need tickets as Boosters sh*t their pants in offering a few tickets back in December of last year then quickly folded the tent and sent them back. From my friends out in Utah , the Utes are very excited for this game and felt disrespected last year... Whatever. I will be there and hopefully find a ticket along with the rest of my group but either way will be ready for some FOOTBALL!. Does Utah have sports bars ;)??! Can we meet at a Morman Hooters? Asking for a friend.....

Will be there, too. Got hotel reservations apparently before they realized it is a Thursday game, assuming they price game weekends like is done in Gainesville.

I just made my hotel reservation and hotel rates still seemed very reasonable to me, most hotels downtown still had rooms.

I don't think the UU games affect the hotels nearly as much as UF games affect Gainesville hotels. Most fans attending the game are already in SLC, and the stadium is much small than the swamp. Even fans coming from Ogden or Provo still probably just drive in and out that day. Tickets on the other hand, good luck finding those...

The Bayou south of downtown is a great sports bar/beer hall. Good food too.

This won't help them feel any better.

    Utah
    Last year's record: 10-4
FPI projection: Make playoff: 3.9% | Win national title: .2%
Caesars Sportsbook odds to make playoff: +1200

Agree or disagree with FPI: Agree. A third straight Pac-12 title is a reasonable expectation -- quarterback Cam Rising returns, and the defense is always one of the league's best
-- but the Utes haven't been consistent enough during the regular season to reach the next level.

Toughest test: Oct. 21 at USC. Utah had the edge against the Trojans twice last year -- first during the regular season and again in the Pac-12 championship game, knocking USC
out of the No. 4 playoff spot. It's hard to imagine USC will allow it to happen a third straight time, especially on their home turf, in Lincoln Riley's second season.

What the committee will like: Two Power 5 nonconference opponents -- if Florida and Baylor are better this year. Utah opens the season with back-to-back games against opponents from the SEC and Big 12, respectively, which could give the Utes' résumé a boost on Selection Day. The committee doesn't just reward teams for wins against CFP top 25 teams; it also acknowledges respectable wins against opponents over .500. That means both Florida and Baylor have to be better than their 6-7 records last year.

What the committee won't like: A slow September start. Last year, Utah lost to both Florida and UCLA -- two opponents the Utes will face at home before the end of September.
If Utah doesn't win those games this year, its role in the playoff will again be limited to spoiler.

    Great information here, player...

There is also "chatter" that Cam might not be as healthy as they pretend he will be. But it will NOT matter even if he's 100%... he will be running for his life all game long.

Or Gators who live in the area and know the lay of the lane?

Thinking of doing a spontaneous trip to SLC for the game and wanted to know how difficult it is to scalp before games (do they write tickets for scalping, etc.)? Would be leaving the wife and one year old at home flying solo, so I’m fine taking risks going without tickets as I used to do this in my younger days when single and would be able to find, SEC and national championship game tickets. Unless I can get some good seats beforehand at a reasonable price. But this is a small stadium and I’m sure the biggest non-conference game they’ve hosted there in a while.

Also, hotel recommendations, walking distance to the stadium and bars, or at least a short Uber away.

    Anything else I should know?

Would a victory in SLC (season or bowl) be the farthest west victory in UF history?

Welcome to Salt Lake to those traveling to the game. Figured I would share a few recommendations for Food/Drink/Hotels/etc.

    • Hotels: plenty of options depending on your budget - the Grand America is a 5 star hotel that is on the south end of downtown if you want to break the budget. The Marriot at City Center is nice and a good location and the Hyatt Regency that is attached to the new convention center is worth a look. If you like Kimpton properties, The Hotel Monaco is a cool stay and is centrally located downtown.

Food/Drink: Yes, you can get a drink in SLC and the watered down beer went away years ago (although liquor is dispensed through a device that limits to 1.5 oz pours). You can buy beer at the grocery stores, but wine/liquor is purchased through state run liquor stores. The food/bar scene has seen a HUGE transition that started with the 2002 Olympics and really ramped up in the past 10 years. There are a number of good dinner/cocktail options on Main St between 300 and 400 s (SLC is on a grid system, so easy to navigate): Whiskey Street, White Horse, Pago, The Rest (this is a funky speakeasy inside a Bodega) are all good options. If you want something a little more casual, Beehive on Main, Beer Bar (Ty Burrell aka Phil Dunphy from Modern Family owns it) and some of the local Breweries such as Squatters and Wasatch are worth it (recommend their Polygamy Porter if you like a darker beer - the slogan is "why have just one"). The best Mexican spot is hands down the Red Iguana (the moles are great), and there are some good Italian options (Valters is pricey but fun), and the Pie Pizzaria just South of the U campus is the college pizza joint. Crown Burger is a SLC fast food staple, try the pastrami burger and make sure you try the fry sauce (mayo and ketchup concoction).

Gameday: you will find tailgating throughout campus, but the primary spot is the Guardsman lot that is just South of the stadium. I can't say that Utah's tailgating scene can match some of the SEC teams, but it holds its own. Walk through the lot and I promise people will share food and drinks. If you are staying downtown, you can access TRAX lightrail on 400 S and Main Street and the redline will drop you off in front of the stadium and is included with your game tickets.

Park City is 20ish minutes from downtown, and there are a number of other canyons/hikes/mtn biking within that same distance ( Big and Little Cottonwood canyons are 20 mins from SLC and are a beautiful drive in the fall).

Lots I have left out, happy to answer any questions, and hope you enjoy your time in Utah - besides the score of the game. Go Utes.
