So all of them hate the US? Get over yourself. These women have brought glory to our country winning back to back world cups. What have you done? Whine? lol
Let's be real, they dedicated their lives into advancing their careers. They weren't doing it for the country. Nothing wrong with that
First There really a no excuse for the showing that USNWT put on at the WC. The talent, the resources, the support… they should have been THE dominant power team. They looked terrible from the start. Second Rapinoe was clearly past her prime. She looked OLD on the field. Slow, missing runs and passes and penalty shots. I agree she shouldn’t have been out there. Third Every person has the right to protest injustice. In America I’d even say it is our duty. But that doesn’t extend to the work place. I’d imagine none of us who hold normal jobs are allowed to protest while on the clock. Many would be in trouble if we wore our company’s name to a protest and it was broadcasted. The leaders of the USWNT (players) have made a second career out of protesting with Rapinoe being the figurehead. They protested for equal pay, now they are protesting police injustice.. all while in the click. All while wearing the jersey, taking the lay, enjoying the benefits of our amazing country. Do I have an issue with them using their voice, their platform to protest injustice … nope.. just not on the clock. Not while representing the carry country they are protesting against.
There's an entire political party who's motto is that our country needs to be "made great again." Bunch of people who despise this country obviously.
As I watched the end of the match this morning I figured there would be thread celebrating the loss from a bunch of "patriots" and I wasn't disappointed. Good news is that the US men's basketball team that will compete in the FIBA world championships is looking pretty weak so you may get another chance to root against the country.
Exactly! At least one person here gets it. They want a second career protesting injustice, that's absolutely their right. And I support that. That right though ends on the clock. Leave the politics in the locker room or do the right thing and resign from the USWNT. And yes even though I don't watch women's soccer very much I was stunned before that Rapinoe was still on the team. That right there is coaching malpractice. She could barely even kick the ball, no way she should have been on the team and her anti-U.S. sentiment infected the entire USWNT in 2019 and 2023. Even if they were just giving her an honorary spot no way should she have seen the pitch. IMO the US Soccer Federation has to root out the anti-U.S. sentiment in the team. Politics aside if nothing else it hurts team chemistry. You could tell even in the group stage these were individuals playing, not a team playing. Before 2027 you sit down any member of this team who might have a chance of playing in 2027 and make them sign a contract saying they will stand for the anthem, put their hand over their heart and will sing the anthem. If they do not agree they are not considered for the USWNT. Replace the entire roster if you have to.
The notion that only the US supports women's soccer with resources and support is flat out false at this point. The big clubs in Europe are building huge women's programs right now, which is where a player spends the vast majority of her time. For example, probably the best US player at this World Cup was Lindsey Horan, who plays her club ball at Olympique Lyonnaise in France.
Glory? They got beat by some 2nd rate tween boys. Their 100 or so fans don’t equate to glory. They certainly weren’t role models. Here is a real hero who brought glory to our country…
This team was horrible. The younger players aren’t that good. 192sqft and they shooting on goal about 30-40%. That sucks! You’re professionals. Put the ball on goal! Rapione was way off her game the whole tournament. The team only scored 4 goals with 3 coming against a tier 3 team. The defense was good enough though, only allowing 1 goal! Really, Portugal should have been playing Sweden if it weren’t for the best defensive player ever, the POST! Time to start over.
I have no problem with athletes using their podium to call for social justice. Just like Tommie Smith and John Carlos in the 1968 Olympics, top athletes who are representing their country and point out its issues is a good thing in a democracy. We should be asking why we can root for African American athletes in red white and blue in the Olympics but deny them equal rights. Just like we need to ask why LGBTQ+ athletes in the World Cup face similar issues. As for the team this year, seemed to lack motivation and killer instinct. 4 goals in 4 games, with 3 coming against Vietnam. Not good. I think it's the coach. Poor tactics, poor sub patterns, and no creativity. And yes, Rapinoe played poorly. She's clearly lost a step, and it shows.
I said them getting knocked out (meaning early). And yes there are good teams, but the US (for now) is a fairly distant first in terms of overall talent pool, but yes that gap is getting smaller…..just as in pro basketball.
give me 15 HUNGRY guys from the D league and they win gold. Otherwise load up on NBA ‘stars’ and bring on the bronze for complacency
