Isn't TikTok the one that's so bad? Instagram too? I know nothing specifically about them, just what I've heard. I know that it's all a scourge on society.
Maybe, bit my parents thought MTV would make me a trainwreck so... Instagram is owned by Meta/Facebook. TikTok is mostly just silliness. My concern is snapchat which is a bit known for predatory behavior. Weve taught our girls as many safety aspects as possible. Our 12 year old son is 100% video games and YouTube. (Sports highlights, gaming vids etc).
Snapchat sucks. Nothing good happens on there. The rest is pretty harmless in my opinion. My kid is mostly on YouTube.
TikTok is a lot of garbage and also sus videos from middle-aged white males. Owned by the Chinese, but the Chinese won’t allow TikTok use in China. Add to this it is banned by several U.S. government agencies due to espionage concerns. Stay far away from TikTok.
I assume as people age into adulthood they would have more of interest in the "breaking news" nature of Twitter. It's really all its actually good for. I use it once a year probably, the first day of NFL free agency. Or to get sports injury updates.
China has Douyin, which preceded TikTik and has 600M users in China. Douyin is also ByteDance. Douyin is essentially just an insanely regulated and censored TT, with the addition of a massive livestreaming shopping component. TT isn’t available there because it actually isn’t bad enough. And FTR, I don’t care if TT disappears tomorrow. But they mos def aren’t avoiding it because of any noble societal concern.
I never said Tiktok's ban inside China had anything to do with a noble societal concern. TikTok is not allowed in China, even though it's a platform that is ran by Chinese Communists. That should give everyone pause.
It’s entertaining. The content is geared to what you watch so if garbage and middle added man videos are your thing then that’s what you see. I give every app access to my life so I’m not worried about one more knowing where I am.
A bird tweets… what does an X do? “Did you see what Trump X’ed out?” Seems weird. Maybe Elon is hoping everyone will forget he bought Twitter if he burns the place down and changes the name.
I'm not on tik tok but I agree with the premise. It's amusing that people pick and choose what parts of their online presence they think are intrusive. If you're posting on GatorCountry I guarantee somone with minimal skills can determine more about you than you'd be comfortable with through basic IP data. China can find out about anyone. The US can find out about anyone. If you're online in any real capacity you're accessible.
Just saw on CNN that hundreds of schools are suing social media platforms for the harm they do to children's mental health. Specifically mentioned Snapchat.
Every time I read a tweet the logo of Celebrity Cruises is prominently displayed. Elon Musk has decided to promote the cruise line. Who would have thought?
If I work in marketing for that cruise line, I'm absolutely giddy over the opportunities that abound from this change.
