According to the NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF STANDARDS AND TECHNOLOGY, “Time has no physical properties to measure. What we are really measuring is time intervals, the duration separating two events.” In other words, time is what keeps everything from happening at once.
See fellow THSG posters! And @uftaipan is active military! He saw the documentary too! They want to eat us!
I consider time a social construct necessary for almost everyone. (Not Italians, many of whom have no concept of it.)
You don't need good odds when you have so many chances. How many stars are there in space? Using the Milky Way as our model, we can multiply the number of stars in a typical galaxy (100 billion) by the number of galaxies in the universe (2 trillion). The answer is an absolutely astounding number. There are approximately 200 billion trillion stars in the known universe. It just takes a 1/200,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 shot.
Had to look that up. Here’s what I found: “The Boltzmann brain thought experiment suggests that it might be more likely for a single brain to spontaneously form in a void, complete with a memory of having existed in our universe, rather than for the entire universe to come about in the manner cosmologists think it actually did.” I’ll have to research that further.
That would be for life to develop somewhere.. but it would have to find us in a mass of 100 billion galaxies in the 2 trillion galaxy universe. The odds are much higher that a person is born a crackpot and says he "saw" a UFO.
Much truth. I liked to tell this story to my Italian American family. Back in the late 80s, I was stationed in Italy while in the Navy. Early on, I had taken my civy clothes to some little shop in town to have them washed. The little old Italian woman running the shop said to me "domani, domani" i.e. "tomorrow." I learned quickly that tomorrow def didn't mean tomorrow. It meant whenever she got it done, which was over a week later.
One of the comments under that was “You gonna travel 116 light years just to learn Swedish? Come on now.”
I hear you. Lots to love about the country. I'm jealous. I've been trying to get back to there for 30 years. Just hasn't worked out yet. Where did you go?
I find Jason Colavito to be the "rational" counter to the UFO / alien kooks. Read My CNN Piece about the UFO Hearing
I read it as just another GOP play to keep people distracted from real world events and to ignore the necessary work as to what Gov't. should be doing. IMO the citizens have plenty to worry about without these types of assinine distractions that are created to mollify a rather stupid, conspiracy driven crowd that has little interest in reality but a big interest in making money on total Bull- ^hit.
