This was almost certainly my favorite non-championship Gator game. Corso also famously picked us to lose by something like 30. Such a satisfying win.
Was at that game and it was the loudest that I had ever heard Florida Field. Also took part in the dancing and celebrating on University Avenue which effectively shut it down for a while. This was in the days before GPD and UPD, shall we say, have a less patient view of such shenanigans.
I've told this story before, but I'll tell it again... That year, I went to the LSU game in BR. First loss after the natty. Then, I also went to Jax for the UGA game... So, despite going to all of the home games up until then (I was a student at the time, so of course), I decided to take one for the team and sell my ticket for the FSU game. I got something like $150 for it, which was a TON of cash for a broke college student. I really wish I would have been there, but am convinced that I did the right thing by not going. I'm sure we would have lost had I been there. That game solidified my belief in Gator superstitions, which is why I'm so hard on myself after losses due to me wearing the wrong Gator shirt. The rest of you may think your shirt selection has an outcome on the game, but I assure you, it's all me!
See, that year, it was just the "Big Game" jinx that I was worried about. I only go to on average one game a year, and have been doing really well, last year (LSU) notwithstanding.
See? Right there, the LSU game proves you haven't shaken that monkey yet. Perhaps if you're good and eat your vegetables, the board will let you go to the Charlotte game.
Not that this really needs saying again, but watching the replay on YouTube I'm reminded of how truly dirty fsu was under Bowden. Late hits, hits out of bounds, face masks, taunting, and other assorted acts of Tomfoolery. Many of those nulls deserve nothing but misery in their advancing years.
What was the year that our running back was on the ground, out of bounds and the camera catches the FSU player trying to stomp on his hand? I'd cheer for ISIS if they played FSU.
2001...and it was Grossman. The same game that they twisted Ernest Graham's leg and injured his knee.
Which ever one would keep them out of the playoffs with a loss. If they are both in the championship game, then I guess UGAG would win if I had to choose.
This will always be the Zach Piller game to me. As I remember it, he missed the first game with an injury, then he went out on Bourbon Street the night before the game and taunted a bunch of FSU DL's to try and put an inside move on him. He backed it up too. I think he was blocking Boulware most of the game.
A cousin of my wife's, from Holland was visiting us and i was able to get him a ticket. When DT intercepted the pass near the end of the game and the stadium exploded the cousin was yelling something to me (he was sitting next to me) but i could not hear him. After the game i asked him what he said, and he told me that he had been to many Ajax games in holland and had never heard anything as loud as the Swamp!
yeah, the rotation was a genius move by SOS to get the best possible performance out of two flawed players. I remember going into that game being really down on our chances to win with DJ and Brindise, but when Spurrier started subbing them in and out for each other on that first drive and we scored, it threw F$U all out of whack and got the crowd pumped up which set the tone for the rest of the game. I was sitting in the SEZ and when Green caught that bomb coming right at us, that's the loudest I've ever heard the Swamp - everybody in the stadium went from sitting down to on their feet screaming and jumping around in about a half second while he was still running.
