TV rights. ESPN has CWS & Sunday night baseball and doesn't want to compete against itself. Speaking of ESPN... and I get the usual ESPN biases: they love coaches that make good narratives; dynasties; private-unis that have higher admission standards than their conferences (especially Syracuse, which is the alma mater of about 30% of their control room employees); and public-flagship-unis that are *way* better at revenue sports than "playing school"... the pro-LSU-baseball slant is about 3-5x what I'd expect. Is there some specific reason I'm missing for why they love LSU so much?
New day, new game. Let's go Gators... You have to be yourself (no pressing) to set yourself free!!!! Go Gators!
I have nothing against Robertson personally or Cags for that matter. All I'm saying is that you've got two possible games left to win this Championship. You need production NOW. BT said the guys were having trouble seeing the ball due to the shadows. I guess when Robertson came in maybe it was a better situation to see the ball. Glad he put it in play. He is a great outfielder. Would love to see him produce offensive numbers. The game is at 3pm today so should be full sun, win this one and tomorrow's game will probably be at 7pm again so the shadows will be in play. I agree that the hitters need to swing at Broadway fastballs. Hoping they all get their swings going. Everyone on here has their reasons for picking a lineup, gotta hit though with 2 games left. GO GATORS!!!!
My thoughts after the game: LSU looks to be the better team overall and our approach at the plate is painful to watch. It was an ugly loss. Floyd K'd 17 Gators in 8 innings- 17 of 24 outs were not put in play--- what would Skenes had done? The fact that we had chances to win the game is a testament to why we love this game of baseball.. LSU left 17 on base, we stuck out 20 times. Our approach at the plate does not change- no adjustments- that's partly on the coaches. Not sure what is said or not said in the dugout but we made the same mistakes at the plate in the late innings as in the first innings. Our top guys seemed lost at the plate, especially Cags who is in a monumental slump at the wrong time of year. We can till can win this thing but Waldrep has to be outstanding and go into the 8th inning or longer as we've burned Fisher and Neely so only Slater (and Abner?) left of the guys Sully trusts. I thought yesterday was a must win game and we lost - and looked bad in losing- so it's a serious uphill slog now as LSU has the wind at their backs. If it goes to Monday, I am nearly certain Skenes will start and pitch 4-5 innings. Go Gators!
Alot of crazy talk on some threads here on Diamond Gators, we have the number 1 or 2 team in all of college baseball, how many coaches and players are watching from home in envy Been Following Gator Baseball from the Dave Fuller Days I want a Natty for our 2023 Gators as much as anyone on the board, I see it as one of, if not the very best team we have had, we could win it all tomorow or get beat today but the season has been a great ride, I am proud of the kids and the coaches I hope there will be a jampacked crowd celebration of the season at Condron Go Gators!
My question is: Where are the Florida fans?! We are outnumbered 30:1! Last night felt like an LSU home game. It's been very dismal fan support here.
You partly answer a comment/question from earlier in this thread of why there seems to be a LSU slant to the coverage. Their fan support borders on the truly fanatical and they travel. Plus, despite not wining a NC snce 2009, the LSU baseball program is the closest thing to a dynasty that you have in college baseball. While we're on the subject: anyone notice that their top two guys: Crews and White are Florida boys? Can't let too many guys like that get away.
Plenty of Gator fans there too. It’s probably 70/30 or 75/25…but LSU to a man is louder so it sounds like 90/10
Even though we burned our #1 starter and closer, LSU burned one of their better starters and their closer. We start our #2 starter today which is really #1B. We still have Fisher with innings and CWS experience and closer #2 Slater. Huge pitching advantage. In game 3, we have our #3 starter who will have to be on and what's left in our pen at that point. LSU will have to go Johnny Wholestaff. We would have to establish an early lead as Skenes can probably go 40 pitches tops after 120 pitches Thursday. They will not risk the #2 player in the draft more than that. If they start him, which I doubt, it's for 2-3 innings at most in hopes to pass a lead onto their bullpen. We are the road team today. This is obviously a must win game. We hopefully win the coin toss to be the home team tomorrow. Not to be greedy, but get ahead early and expanding that lead would help our bullpen a ton. I hoping Waldrop can give us 7 or 8 today and we force them to pitch 2 or 3+ arms. Patience and getting their PC up will be huge. They have the bats, but are running out of arms. They burned their best available arms yesterday. It was worth the win, but leaves it up to their bats and not their arms to win one more.
This is exactly what I think too. Cags is hitting so woefully now, he’s not even up to a “slump” status. I keep thinking he’s gonna launch one but it’s usually a KO or high pop up. Today would be a great time for him and others to start hitting.
The difference between the two teams last night was not talent. It was the difference between focus and anxiety. I was not a good baseball player (sucked) but I was an athlete. Our guys were over-anxious, theirs..focused.
I like this post and gave it the "like" emoji, but I disagree with one point. While this group has performed EXTREMELY well, I feel there were other Gator teams that were better. While there are silly posts from front-runners that suggest players purposely don't get hits or purposely throw pitches that allow opponent hits or coaches who purposely allow player failures, I find the team is playing outstanding baseball that has put them at the highest level of the sport. Boy, I hope the win the last game.
I really don’t have a dog in the fight but your commentary on Robertson seems kinda foolish. Before last nights game show me one instance in post season where UF has executed a sacrifice bunt? Literally everyone who has tried hasn’t been successful, so don’t pin that on one guy. That’s on the coaches not spending time on bunting and small ball in the fall.
It's clearly a home LSU game. I don't know why Florida fans don't travel for baseball. Can't use the LSU fans gobble up all the tickets excuse. Just seems like a lack of interest.
Why is it hard for people to understand this? LSU is the main school in LA. It's also located in a dump, Baton Rouge that offers nothing else to do. Florida is not the only game in town (state) and is surrounded by beautiful beaches.
