When I was in France they looked down on you if you spoke English until they learned you were American, then they spoke English to you.
OK. I have been to France 3x in the last 7 years. From what I can tell no one cares. They just want to take your money move you along. Maybe if you need to ask for directions it matters. But I always use google maps.
I noticed it primarily when ordering in a restaurant, it happened multiple times, but granted it was a long time ago.
My first trip was 7 years ago. I was at a restaurant in Paris and the Maitre d’ told me "we have to speak English now." So I take it the culture has changed.
I’m feeling okay about Paris but Bordeaux may be more challenging. Just need to learn how to say “more wine”
