The funny thing is, my immediate reaction to Langford's shot off the bat was the old Major League bit -- "Too high." His reaction pretty quickly dispelled that notion.

I think coaches overthink it a little when they get into tournament play. They think they need to keep backup arms fresh because you have to win a bunch in a few days, so they go a little too long with the starter.

I am answering my own question here. I slowed down the shot and the ump did indeed starting yelling at Langford. Glad he didn't do more than yell.

In that situation, kid hitting a 9th inning HR to tie the game in the college world series? Unless he flipped off UVA there is no call. Langford never looked at a uva player or their bench. Did he celebrate? Hell yeah! Any ump getting jazzed over that does not understand sports.

They also hadn't lost to an out of conference team this year... until the Gators played them.

The Comeback Kids did it again! There's no quit in this team. Go Gators!

Now we get Waldrep up to face Oral Roberts, advantage Gators. If Hurston is on all we need is our bats to wake up early and get a good lead. But we all know no lead is big enough. I'm sure we will use Slater as much as needed. If we have a really good lead I would not be surprised if Sully runs a few other arms thru so they get time on the mound as well.

One thing is for sure Schiekofer needs to sit. At this point I'm fine with Shelnut in LF, Langford in CF, and Evans in RF. I still think Robertson is a value in that big outfield but Langford and Evans can cover lots of ground. So maybe Shelnut starts and Robertson comes in somewhere in the 7th or 8th on. You have to go with the player who is hot at the moment and that's definitely Evans.

As to the game thread, people please settle down and respect Gal's intentions for the thread. She covers Gator baseball so well and enjoys helpful and amusing comments that add to the enjoyment of a baseball game. Not tearing down the coaches decisions. So let's try to sit back and enjoy this College World Series whether we win or lose. As we all know, it ain't easy to do. SO enjoy the ride that we are on and celebrate the wins as they come. And we all should know by now, don't ever write this team off or coach off in the middle of a game.
    Go Gators!

Blessed to be at this game. Afterward the players stayed around the dugout to greet the fans and of course around the bus. Got a great picture with Wyatt. We're looking forward to UT LSU tomorrow and Oral on Sunday.

I definitely think Evans has earned the start in right. Sully must see some freshman weakness in Mikey. His defense is great, but he's not a downgrade from Richie. So I would move Shelnut to left field and keep Wyatt in center, with Ty in right. GatorGal is the ultimate straight shooter Florida fan and too many people went negative on this team way too soon. Win or lose, Kevin O'Sullivan is the best baseball coach in UF history and not deserving of such quick, harsh criticism. Just getting to the CWS is a major accomplishment and winning the SEC is the primary goal each year. However this turns out, this team is special and worthy of respect. Beat those Oral guys named Bob!!

I wanted to give you a shout out for reminding some posters that the game was not over. You stayed positive in the middle of the harsh negatives. You are a poster that tries to bring good info and constructive criticism when it applies. Thanks for adding to the game threads.

If ORU stays the course we can expect their starter to be #11 Sr LHP Harley Gollert (4.30, 10-1, 88.0 IP)

ORU Athletics: Harley Gollert - 2023 - No. 6 Baseball - Oral Roberts University

He turns 24 today and is in his sixth year of D1 baseball (4 + COVIDyear + medical redshirt due to early 2019 injury). He played some college summer ball for my hometown Wausau Woodchucks (then known as "Wisconsin Woodchucks", despite 8 other teams in the league/state).

So: an experienced, mid-major lefty and his numbers tell you he's about what you'd expect from that. A tendency to give up the HR more than the BB (ORU's home park looks neutral 330/375/400-symmetric).

In his 2 G, 2 GS, 5 1/3 IP vs. major conference teams (all in the tournament): 12 H, 12 R (all earned), 2 BB, 1 HB, 6 K, 4 HR. Even gave up a triple! Against all "good teams", he did have a decent game against Dallas Baptist (5 IP, 3 ER/R) back in March, though in a loss because bullpen implosion.

That gives me the chills! Fabulous clip there. It is great to be a Florida Gator! This game will go into the book of greatest comeback victories ever in all UF sports. While we sometimes don’t play well, we are just never out of it. This team has amazing persistence and resilience!
