Baseless is a bit unfair, I generally don’t come here with things that are made up or from dubious sources. Of course there’s a chance she was tricked, but that would surprise me. She’s pretty sharp and the team would have had to have been in on it. And if you read around, there are a decent number of actual examples of this, though it isn’t some epidemic for sure.
Baseless in that there is no external evidence of this. If you read around, you find the hoaxes. As far as I can tell, there is one person in the entire world that has actually claimed this, an adult from Norway about 7 years ago. I dont see how wearing a tail/costume is necessarily "identifying" as a cat either, that's the part the seems dubious to me, and other people. Even in your version, the person was just wearing a tail and using 'they' pronouns, which to me doesn't sound like identifying as a cat.
Furries do not identify broadly as non-human. It is a form of role playing within a context. It is not a form of general identification. They do not claim to broadly be cats or foxes or horses or whatever, just like acting or dressing like one within certain contexts.
No, the world would be better off if men don’t shower in women’s locker rooms. There have been several recent cases around the country where “people” with male parts have been using women showers in gyms and health clubs and that is not fair to the bio women using those facilities. This guy feels uncomfortable to be in men’s showers but doesn’t get that many women will feel the same to have him to be in theirs?
I don’t want to spend any more time on this point because it isn’t central to the original post, but I said she could be more fervent (could hav remade a pun there but didn’t) and furries overlap with the LBBTQ community pretty substantially apparently, so that could have been part of the discussion with the pronouns. Either way, things aren’t what they used to be, kinda hard to not at least agree on that.
I kind of live under rock with such issues, but I've also heard about the tail/furry thing. I thought someone was joking at first, but nope. Unfortunately, this whole legit identity/gender issue seems to have brought with it a certain badge of honor amongst young folks re: having victim status. The desire to belong to something or some group is rather strong in that developmental stage. It will be interesting to see how this all develops in 20 years.
Cool. That's your choice. But I'm not going to respect anybody's opinions on trans issues when they intentionally misgender transgender people. If you can't afford transgender people that small amount of courtesy, you're not worth the conversation. Enjoy your evening.
Devils advocate why does that matter? If gender is a social construct then why does it matter if male genitalia is exposed in a locker room where women may be exposed as well? Why can't a transwoman keep her male parts if they are insignificant in defining male vs female? Gender fluid? Why can't a transwoman with male genitalia be a lesbian? I'm surprised GL actually mentioned that male genitalia shouldn't be exposed in a female locker given his position.
