Correct, unfortunately. DeSantis is already on the outside looking in, and I do think he can win... but he needs the field to clear up so people are forced to choose between DeSantis and Trump. If it's a field of Haley, Christie, Pence, DeSantis, Trump, and a bunch of other schmucks... and you get all of those names on the ballot... Trump will win the nomination again.
Everything I've heard is that any indictments will just help him politically with the Republicans. I say that's what I hear from the talking heads because it personally doesn't make any sense.
Even if Trump and DeSantis were the only 2 candidates, Trump would still likely win. Head-to-head polls between Trump and DeSantis show Trump with a huge lead over DeSantis.
At this point the gop nomination is Trump's to lose. Question is the general election after that. We re elect that orange pos at our peril. We can and must do better.
I would feel better about the general election if Biden and Kamala would both get out of the way. Without falling down. Biden was supposed to be a caretaker president after the Trump nightmare. But I guess that once you taste power you can't get enough or let it go.
DeSantis would still be an underdog, but a lot can change between now and the Republican nomination. Without the field clearing at least to three people, I'm not sure if he has a chance, to be honest.
I don't think Pence's entry into to the race will making any difference although it should be interesting see who the Evangelical Christians will support considering that Pence is a true believer in contrast to the Orange One whom they have been worshiping or DeSantis who is trying to appeal to them on the basis that if he is elected he will be able to nominate far right justices to SCOTUS for eight years in contrast to Trump who will only be able to do so for four more even if he is elected.
But the "Trump nightmare" isn't over. I'd be fine with Biden stepping aside if there were a clear successor, but there isn't. Biden is tough to watch and listen to, but I think he's done a pretty good job overall, and he already beat Trump once. Doesn't mean he will win again but seems risky to me to change the lineup without a very clear plan.
I would actually vote Pence over Desantis or Trump. His extreme evangelical beliefs are far from my cup of tea and lead to bad policies. But at least he’s not a criminal or wannabe dictator.
He would be horrible, but yes, he is preferable to DeSantis or Trump. Matters not because he wants to make abortion illegal on a national level and there's no way that the country will vote for someone who wants to do that.
Yes, but it's also risky to run anyone who is 80 years old. He could be incapacitated tomorrow, and then what? The male life expectancy in this country is 77 years. IOW Biden and everyone like him (including me) is living on borrowed time.
I’m not so sure. I think many of the republican candidates are waiting for the New York, and Georgia attorneys to do the job of knocking Trump out of the race for them. If he is the candidate then so be it, the Democrats will occupy the White House another four years.
It's a fair concern. Of course, Trump will be 77 this month. Haley has taken some jabs about Trump's age. But if Trump becomes the nominee against Biden, I think the age angle becomes less of a focus since there's only a few years difference in age. Also, if either wins, they're only getting one more term. I'm sure both have some of the best doctors in the world. Both Trump's parents and Biden's parents lived into their mid to late 80's and early 90's without the sort of medical care these men have access to. But sure, anything is possible. Jimmy Carter is 98 and seems to have been pretty strong and active until recent years.
I think his biggest issue are the ones like me. Votes he had locked up. He has lost a lot of us for being such a rotten person. I am literally an independent because of Trump. He did this to himself. Not the media. Not the left. HE has to own it. ... But we know he won't.
It's not a taste for power, it's trying to save the country. Biden has that old white guy energy which seems to pull off enough from Trump. Kamala's toxic because she's a black woman and this country is still the kind of country that can support a Trump or DeSantis. By the way, in terms of running on the same ticket, I suspect this may be photoshopped, but they seem to be getting along much better
