I figured we could all collaborate examples of the love letters and helpful deeds Trump did for Putin while he was in office. I’ll start us off! Trump announces strikes on Syria following suspected chemical weapons attack by Assad forces
I found another! Keep ‘em coming, y’all!! Trump signs off sanctions on Russia gas pipeline - BBC News
Trump so also informed the Russians in advance who in turn informed the Syrians so that the Syrians could move their aircraft to bomb resistant shelters and in reality the missile strikes on almost no impact on the Syrians. A few aircraft were destroyed and the runways that suffered minor damage were back in operation within hours. Trump Surrenders Element of Surprise by Warning Russia of Planned Strike on Its Ally Syria
And it had very little actual impact on Russia and also noting that Trump's primary goal was to help US companies sell LNG to the European Union (not a bad motive but the goal was not to punish Russia). And let's not forget that at the time the EU still continued to purchase gas from Russia. It wasn't until Russia's invasion of Ukraine last year that the EU countries cut back on the purchase of gas from Russia. Nord Stream 2: A failed test for EU unity and trans-Atlantic coordination
As you know, I loathe Trump, and I fully acknowledge the risk that if you tell Russia, then Russia tells Assad. But I would have done the same thing under the same circumstances. The risk of accidentally killing Russians at that time* outweighed the additional Syrian assets that might have been hit. It was still a good strike. That decision and natural consequence is not without precedent. In 1991, GHW Bush warned Gorbachev that DESERT STORM was about to begin so that the USSR could pull out its advisors from Iraq. Of course, Gorby turned right around and warned Saddam. *Today, given events in Ukraine, I would only give Russia a vague warning about any forces they have in Syria being there at their own risk. Then I’d bomb Russian positions in Syria with impunity. Eff them.
It seems to me the OP is completely missing the point about Trump and the danger he posed, and continues to pose, to the Republic.
LOL, did ChatGPT not tell you that the objective of the attack wasn’t to hit human targets? The objective of the attack was to destroy chemical weapons facilities and labs, which the attack did. It was also a joint mission with the UK and France. Letting the Russians know ahead of time didn’t give Assad time to move his chemical plants. Perhaps you should do your own research instead of using ChatGPT to fire potshots at Republicans.
That might be, but at the very least the whole idea of “Trump was pro-Russian, and under him Ukraine would have already fallen” is far more complex at best and a straight-up false narrative at worst.
Please don’t attempt to hijack the thread and turn it into something it’s not. Feel free to begin your own thread. This thread is about Trump’s love affair with all things Putin.
I’m not absolutely sure who’s the bigger fan boi of Putin. Okie or DD? It’s not trump he’s Putin’s bitch boi. DD seems to be paid by the post by the farm and no one is paying Okie to post anything so I’m going with Okie, he loves him some Muskie too. Not sexually guys! That’s not what fan boi means (unless it’s for Korean boy bands).
I don’t think Putin would have done anything differently than he was the day Trump left office, if Trump had won a 2nd term. Putin had a healthy fear of how the worldwide outcry would have been received by Trump and what Trump may have done in response. Even if you loathe Trump, you probably at least recognize his need to save face and one up his opponent at almost any cost. Not an appetizing proposition for Putin.
Another example of Trump doing things just the way Putin wants them done… Russia reacts to the killing of Soleimani
So Germany was trying to hurt themselves last year when they put an end to Nordstream 2. That ChapGPT really is something else.
You are making the right call, by bowing out early. You are definitely one of the savvier posters here.
I’ve read this post a couple of times, and I’m not sure what you’re suggesting. Is it that Putin would have delayed his invasion of Ukraine if Trump had remained in office? If so, that’s possible, not that anyone could prove or disprove it. Afghanistan probably would not have gone down the same way, and there indicators (certainly not proof) that Putin accelerated his timetable based on his perception of our weakness there. Almost certainly we would not have bent over for Iran (to no discernible positive effect to date) and, therefore, would not have alienated Saudi Arabia the way we have, which would have given more teeth to our efforts to cripple Russia’s oil industry. But as I’ve said repeatedly in the thread about the war, it doesn’t matter. Biden is President. Trump is not. Unless one is writing an alternative history novel, there’s no profit in the discussion. Democrat casual assumptions that Putin would have won the war by now are as groundless as MAGA casual assumptions that Putin never would have invaded.
