We need high tech manufacturing here for the jobs, revenue, and national security.
High-tech jobs are great, don’t want to discount that in the slightest, but what we really need are latest gen advanced semiconductor tech they manufacture in Taiwan. We have a ton of semiconductor plants here in the states. My old company built the four largest plants Intel has ever built (3 in Oregon and 1 in Arizona) and a number of those people left to go build a massive Global Foundries plant in New York. There are also a few plants my old company built for Micron in Utah and Idaho. There’s also dozens of other smaller semiconductor or high-tech companies manufacturing in the US including Qualcomm, On Semiconductor, TI, Analog Devices, etc. Economically it’s great for the revenue side but national security-wise this won’t address the cutting edge chips we’re so desperate for coming from Taiwan.
