You would be hard pressed to claim that "thoughts and prayers, shithole country, see you next mass murder" are dishonest commentaries.
I understand what you're saying but I just don't see this happening. When my wife and got our concealed permit in Florida the instructors actually did encourage us to get insurance
Oh, I don't think anything I proposed is actually going to happen. I suspect that we will do absolutely nothing and this will continue for at least another decade until those who grew up with active shooter drills become the majority of the voting public.
Is this just a standard umbrella policy (I have one of those) or is there a specific insurance for firearms?
It's not the same legislative issue. You can't compare them. Republicans are wearing AR-15 lapel pins on their coats. They are emplacing policies that reduce, rather than increase the obstacles to gun ownership. How is it possible that you think that these legislators can be convinced to vote for anything that even resembles a compromise?
I always wondered if elderly, anti-progressive folks are aware enough that most of what they are against (gay marriage, marijuana, gun reform) is going to be voted in after their voting block expires. And then I wonder if I become old and anti-progressive on certain things what that's going to look like. AI rights?
The Democrats have not had a majority in SCOTUS since 1969. Three of the most influential SCOTUS decisions on the 2A have come since then. District of Columbia v. Heller - right to personal arms for self protection McDonald v. City of Chicago - state and local governments could not enact outright bans on handguns (and more). Caetano v. Massachusetts - expanded the definition of bearable arms A case has been made that these rulings have made gun control legislation at the Federal level more difficult.
It is fascinating that millennials aren't shifting in their politics the way prior generations did. I suspect a lot of that is because of how little the government is doing to meet their/our concerns while government was at least somewhat responsive to the concerns of prior generations.
@flgator2 You disagreed, but I am most correct. You do NOT understand the meaning of the 2A. To get to where you are with it, you have to ignore half of the wording and the ENTIRE historical perspective. Disagree all you want, it just highlights your lack of knowledge.
Explain to me how the IRA, signed in August 16, 2022, caused inflation to get worse. Feel free to reference the chart below in your explanation.
It would not save "thousands of lives every year." Dear god. There were 21,000 gun murder deaths in the country in 2021 total. There are around 350,000,000~ guns in circulation in the U.S. at this time. Even if you banned ALL guns sales from today forward, it would take decades to see any noticeable indentation in the gun murder rate in the U.S. In fact, there's an argument for gun violence going up if all gun sales were banned in the U.S. The black market would heat up and you'd see more violence as a result, as we did with prohibition. Your ideas are not practical, feasible or impactful. You'd have to completely overturn the 2nd Amendment, which isn't happening. It's a pipe dream.
Yeah. The demographics of both parties used to have way more overlap than it does now. I posted an article a few months ago highlighting what you said. The normal shift from Democrat to republican voter isn't happening with the 40 and younger crowd like it historically has. I'm sure the #s on wanting gun reform skews incredibly towards the younger voters
That is a non-sequitur. Strawman. @l_boy didn't claim that banning all gun sales was the sole solution. There is an argument, but it's a bad one. It is a non-sequitur to assume that the source of guns will result in more violence. Wrong. Consumption during prohibition was below pre-prohibition levels. "We estimate the consumption of alcohol during Prohibition using mortality, mental health and crime statistics. We find that alcohol consumption fell sharply at the beginning of Prohibition, to approximately 30 percent of its pre-Prohibition level. During the next several years, however, alcohol consumption increased sharply, to about 60-70 percent of its pre-prohibition level. The level of consumption was virtually the same immediately after Prohibition as during the latter part of Prohibition, although consumption increased to approximately its pre-Prohibition level during the subsequent decade." Alcohol Consumption During Prohibition
I think most reasonable people understand it would take a long time, however, that is not an excuse to do nothing.
Just a theory but maybe because younger people are waiting longer to marry and have kids - if they do. I feel like I’ve known people who liked to party and seemed relatively liberal socially but had kids and start going to church and taking a turn to the right.
LOL, I didn't even say anything about alcohol consumption. Have fun continuing to bury your head in the sand. Overturning the 2nd Amendment will never happen. It is a cornerstone of the founding of the country. It would be akin to repealing the 1st Amendment. It'll never happen.
