"Skin in the game" simply means you have something at stake. Something to lose. Chips on the table. Again....Nothing fits the term more than parenting.
If sharing common ancestry makes you part of someone else, we are all a part of each other and all have skin in the game. So I guess that settles it.
These lyrics seem appropriate wrt you… Paranoia strikes deep Into your life it will creep It starts when you're always afraid Step out of line, the men come and take you away
You're trying to hard here wgb. I view my kids as my biggest responsibility. What's at stake is bigger than any "asset" imaginable. I have skin in the game because failing them would be the biggest loss I could take on.
I think you are trying too hard too. Yes everyone parent has an interest in doing right by their kids and wanting the best for them (which continues into adulthood). But its your kid who has skin in the game in the classroom or on the sports field, not you. Lots of parents disagree of course, they are usually the ones who think their kid's teacher/coach is the bad guy for failing them or not starting them in the big game. Their kids are extensions of themselves, and everything that happens to them they view as an attack on themselves. How many times do we talk about those type of parents or adults in the sports threads who think everything that happens on the team or to their kid at practice is their business?
TBH, I am surprised you've coached. But congrats on that. I coached girls rec soccer for 12-13 years, so while I don't have girls playing now, I'm hardly uninterested in the subject. I've said before that I don't think born-males should play against girls or women. But I also don't think it's a particularly pressing issue.
Honestly? OK. You seem more like a complainer than a doer and I think a longtime coach would be more concerned about the league he's been involved in and the broader impact on the game itself rather than "my daughter might lose her spot" and that the only people whose opinion matters are those who have girls playing sports right now. Daughters out of school? You have no skin in the game! that's a pretty limited view. You asked. But, as I said, congrats on the time you've spent helping the kids and the teams.
Interesting that you take that route. I guess you think I’m a liberal. IMO liberals are usually doing all the complaining, things aren’t fair, etc. But I guess you made the leap that because I’m worried about my children that I have a narrow minded pov. I’m a dad/husband first and everything else is next.
Well Trump was POTUS. I’m no longer surprised by people horribly unsuited for the jobs they have. Like serial killers as cops. Feel terrible for the people they purportedly serve (unless they appointed or voted for the respective cretin). For them I wish the worst. In before someone complains I likened them to a serial killer. I did not.
