Not really. Might have something to do with poor QB play and play calling. I can see why a former starter might leave give the current QB questions, but I'm not celebrating it especially if they r a good citizen. .. Simple as that.
We have 85 scholarships. To bring more in we will see more leave. Sometimes it will be players we think are talented. That's ultimately the goal right? Bama, Georgia, Ohio State are constantly letting 4-5 star players ship out after a couple seasons. Not saying that is the case here but if players aren't buying in or maybe Z isn't feeling the QBs. They looked terrible in the Spring Game. He may sit in the portal until we reel someone in who is better? who knows.
I’m not happy he’s gone or anything. He may have been welcome to stay. He may be being pushed out. All we know is he hasn’t really shined and he’s in the portal. I doubt Bama has picked up the phone either. I’m sure he would have better numbers if he had a guy like Trask throwing to him but that’s not in the cards. Maybe he will find a decent qb and be featured a bit more for a smaller school. He may have a shot at Sundays.
I would certainly say he wasn't "pushed out", but I think there were frank conversations about playing time and role.
All programs are losing people. Henderson was good. But some of these up and comers are pretty freaking fast and shifty. Plus we have backs that are gonna catch out of the backfield now. Bordingham is supposedly ready to contribute - I've been waiting on that kid. Fast, big-ass dude. Almost all of the kids are track guys now. Don't hate that!! For the most part I try to stay positive. We have to rebuild. That's a given, we're doing that. The sucky part is it takes time. Nothing is alarming to me. We've sucked for two years as far as win-losses go, but we're recruiting like crazy and getting looks from the top kids. So we're right there. New culture. As others alluded to, this isn't gonna be the year. But let's hope for improvement. The "D" looked pretty decent in the spring game. The offense not so great. Once people are back after injuries and after a few more months of settling down and training, the defense will probably be really good. The offense will probably be better than we saw during the spring game. IMHO-This is the opposite of dissention in the troops. Nothing is 'wrong'. Guys are seeing the incoming level of competition. They need to either nut-up, compete and assimilate, or take their show on the road... Free agency is the new normal. Go Gators.
It would make sense. He didn’t ever jump off the screen with wow factor. Passes to him were usually tight windows and contested balls. A couple of the younger guys seems to have crisper routes and get open if they could start catching the balls thrown their way. I also expect these incoming kids to get snaps this year. Pearsal is the only one I think has earned his snaps in front of anyone. The rest are playing to get snaps.
This may end up being a good thing- we have a lot of young dudes… but I also think there’s a world in which this is a bad sign for future offensive players who see the writing on the wall. 10-7 spring game, run heavy offense/ gonna be hard to get kids who want to play in this offense.
I think he had 3 TD in one scrimmage, so I think he was less worried the QB could get receivers the ball and more that he would get the ball.
they moved it up because spring practices were ending - the portal closes on April 30, it runs from April 15-30 this Spring.
POV matters. Why did we lose coaches? Did you want those coaches here? Are we better going forward? We lost a few mid tier players who didn’t want to be depth pieces going forward. It stinks, but it’s the portal world we created. Top LBs is another POV. sure, they were our top LBs. But were they top tier players? Hard to argue they were. You aren’t even willing to give mertz a chance. What’s that say about you? Helm a top guy? What world is that? no one wants to play in our offense? Lagway and Simmons disagree. Who botched the rashada deal? Many folks will admit they were wrong about past coaches, but you can always find folks who are never wrong. Rather than think you have to be right, why not just support the current coach?
I don’t think the younger guys were taking his reps. I think this is easy to figure out: - Has an NFL brother. Wants that NFL life for himself. Doesn’t see himself getting on NFL radars with this offense and the goofball screen play we run his way (I agree). Doesn’t believe the QB play, Pearsall as the obvious #1, and offensive philosophy (going to be run heavy I think) is conducive to him making it to the league. I agree with him, though I don’t think his talent screams NFL either. Still, good luck kid.
The NFL will find you if you are talented. If you don’t believe he is an NFL talent, do you believe he will be exposed when he gets to a different offense?
