Organized religious institutions have proven time and again that they will protect the institution above all else. You can be religious without the church.
Continuing an atmosphere that fosters abuse, continuing to hide it, pay offs, zero accountability. Nope, don’t blame the institutions. More than just the Catholic, but their expertise is notable. Would good folks do nothing, they weren’t.
Then why are so many hundreds of millions spent on structures and high salaries for "preachers" and their families? Your concept is noble, the reality is not
Ask them. The scriptures clearly state that the CHURCH is the living breathing body of believers. It is literally the only thing called the church in the entire scriptural text. Buildings are never mentioned with the term "church". Not once.
These out of work pedophile priests may soon be moving to Kansas to assist with girls athletics genital pre screens.
As a non-religious person who was very anti-Church for much of my life, I now believe the "organized" part is actually the good part. Yeah they have done lots of awful things and always will. But you can say about any group of people entrusted with the public welfare. And having the veneer of representing God is what gave them the clout to fulfill that function. Human beings are awful the first opportunity they get. How many men would rape the first woman they saw if they could be assured anonymity? I would be scared to find out. Are priests really worse than anyone else? You can argue churches have outlived their usefulness now that we have democratic governments to perform many of the same roles, but with some accountability and without the need invoke to the supernatural. But this point, it's an entirely voluntary activity. It probably enriches the lives of at least some of its members. And churches are a place any person can enter and get some sense of support or community. They are extremely important entities for the poor and people from marginalized groups. Personal spirituality isn't going to do that.
I couldn’t help it. Whether stuff is or isn’t in the Bible, or whether what is in the Bible is considered relevant is selectively used depending on the beliefs of the particular denomination.
It doesn't help that the church has a history of sweeping this kind of thing under the rug and transferring the offenders to other locations. Pedophiles should be prosecuted and incarcerated, not transferred.
Considering there are about 120x more teachers than Catholic priests in the US you're still more likely to get abused by a religious priest than a teacher
Is desantis doing anything about sexual abuse in the church? “an independent investigator that said the top leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention stonewalled and denigrated sexual abuse victims for two decades to protect their own reputations and remained "singularly focused on avoiding liability" for the church.” 45 FL Southern Baptist Pastors 'Credibly Accused' Of Sex Abuse
Conservatives are in a conundrum with this one. Church is good, Pedo is bad, but they don’t want any blame to be placed on the religion, institution, or church structure that allows this to happen. By not giving it more attention, there is some complicity in keeping it under wraps. Instead they will beat this terrifying trans issue to death.
Are liberals in a conundrum with this issue also? Since you want to politicize this issue also, I’m sure you are well aware a higher percentage of Catholics in this country identify as Democrat or leaning Democrat than Republican. This issue has absolutely nothing to do with politics.
I didn’t say politics, but cultural issues and politics are almost synonymous at this point regardless.
