Let's call this the qualify for postseason day....get a couple of wins to try and assure we stay over 500. Added this D and UNF next week. Also get to play with the lineup vs a weaker opponent. For the first time we get to see the two Polish freshmen play doubles, and they get a win on court 3. Court 2 also an easy win. Nefve and Grant were in a tight one 5-4 on court 1 Singles...Nefve, Grant, Nate, Orli, Nirundorn, Tokac
Grant, Nefve, and Tokac throw up quick bagels in first sets....they should all finish quickly Nate scuffling along a tiny bit 4-3 Orli down 2-3 Nirundorn 5-2
Tokac and Grant throw up double bagels, Nefve is at 4-1 so he is probably livid Nate won his first set 6-3, down 1-2 in 2nd.....just can't seem to fully start clicking Orli down 4-5...not ready to play at 4 apparently Nirundorn 6-2 3-0, racing Nefve to clinch
Stepped away and it was wrapped as a 4-0 win...guessing Nefve got his match wrapped Looking at the schedule, the two wins today and one next week vs UNF will pretty much assure a 500+ record. 11 wins at present, 13 wins pretty much assured, 8 losses currently. The 4 remaining SEC matches are all losable, that would be 13-12 worst scenario headed into SEC tourney
Match 2 underway....lineups all shuffled up UF up a break fast on courts 2 and 3 Singles lineup-Braswell, Greif, Nirundorn, Orli, Bonnetto, Zgola. Will be interesting
I’m still stuck on us needing three gimmes to make the tournament. I hope our RPI holds up if we lose the last four real matches.
They were 20 this week in those messed up ITA rankings. So yeah it’s possible I guess. Also possible that I run into a super model at the store this weekend who is into middle aged dudes. Hope springs eternal, so I also hope they prove me wrong. Not the imaginary super model, the tennis team.
Pretty easy time on all courts Braswell 6-1 3-0 Greif 6-0 2-1 Nirundorn 6-3 2-0 Orli 6-1 2-1 Nate 6-1 5-3 Zgola 0 and 0 in his first college singles match
Thing is, other than UGA I think on any given day they can beat the rest of those teams. But they can lose to all of them as well...and that's probably more likely.
Not that this is the thread for it, but our top 10 directors cup streak is in legit jeopardy this year. Mens tennis is just a symptom of the larger problem. As we sit we are about 45 points behind where we were last year, but a ton of points to defend in the spring. Gotta hope golf and baseball overperfom a bunch or it may be a sweat in June.
Mens golf is really playing well...but postseason is such a crapshoot. Track won't match last year but will still do well. Baseball should at least advance to supers, NO reason not to make it that far. Lacrosse looks about the same, womens tennis same
Tennessee was here this morning for our Friday SEC match with them. They came early because they are on spring break and the weather in Knoxville is not good. Of course they also want to get used to the heat. I also saw our X player Blaise Bicknell practicing. I guess the Vols are taking us seriously in Gainesville
UT will be a very tough test, they seem tohave figured things out of late. Only recent loss is a super tight match at UGA. Blistered #4 UK and just easily beat TAMU (who beat UF last weekend).
