With the start of Spring Practice recruiting is going on as always with this staff. This is an update as to who I'm hearing the Gators are doing well with. I will include top targets for each position group. Lets begin with the current committed players on offense. QB: D.J Lagway, everything I've read, heard and otherwise surmised is D.J is very solid to UF and is having an impact on the trail, even if you may not see it immediately. The question is, will UF pursue a second HS QB in this class? My best guess at this time is no, but I expect the staff to keep in touch with others including Davi Belfort whom most project to the Aggies. Others may appear but when you have your guy and he is ranked so high it's an uphill battle. RB: Chauncey Bowens, seems very solid to UF. The Gators will attempt to sign 2 HS backs in this class. It looked like Jarrick Gibson was or is favoring the Gators but I don't believe he is anywhere near a commitment. One reason I say that is watching the offers go out. Look for the second back in this class to come from Gibson, Stacey Gage, Micah Welch or a couple of new names that may pop up. A note on Welch, he is listed at 5'7 195. A strong compact RB who conjures up images of Don Nottingham for us older guys. Welch is a 3* but is intriguing to imagine him getting lost behind the Huge UF OL. TE: Peaguler was on several guys and it's hard to know what effect his leaving, will be impact wise for these guys. The good news is the new TE coach will have a lot of time to make up the loss of WP. TE is an anomaly at UF it seems. Seven at the position currently but I truly doubt that will hold after the spring game is concluded. Look for UF to sign one if not two guys at the position. Current offers are out to Caleb Odom, Amir Jackson, Colton Heinrich and Walter Matthews. Another offer just went out to Brady Prieskorn out of Michigan whom It appears the Gators are trying to get in on. I'm unsure of the pecking order and possibly some new names will emerge during the season. If a couple a current guys such as Hanson or Bordingham emerge perhaps UF will only take one TE this year making this a difficult position to predict. I will put together a very early OL list in the next day or so. Candy
IMHO keeping Bowens is priority number 1. Getting the second rb to complement him is no. 2. Bowens is elite. Way underrated.
Billy will do it if it’s worth it. He isn’t gonna deal with a Rashada situation again. If Billy pursues him, which he is, I trust him. The talent is a no brainer
Hang on to Bowens and go all out for Gibson. Sign them both and give them #22 and #27. It'll work itself out.
