Sadly, we need to stop living in the 90's and the Urban years. Long gone. Chump gave us hope one year and Mr. peanut butter got us to the SECCG a couple of times only to be completely destroyed by Bama. Dan brough some hope and offensive excitement but like peanut butter was unable to get over the bama hump. So here we are, consecutive 6 - 7 years, wallowing in the dregs of the Eastern division. I am excited about CBN, his recent class and DJ and the promise of a stellar class this year. I guess UF needed to "bottom out" to start climbing again. I do think we have the makings for a bright future however. I just hope the fan base wil be patient until 24. I think 23 is gonna be aanother rough ride.
I firmly believe most top end teams (we are in this group) are always just one coach away. That being said the program is on life support…not meaning we are dead forever because the right coach can turn it around quick. But right now we’re not reverent at all outside of the crazy a rashada thing. Hoping Billy is the man to do this.
2023 has all the makings of another middling season for UF, unfortunately, imho. Still too much repair to be done patching up the foundation and building up. CBN has a must win/can’t lose money game to open the 24 season though. Lose that game, and the long knifes will be out.
Easier said than done. Since Spurrier: Zook Meyer Muschamp McIlwain Mullen Napier One out of six (or five)?
It's interesting, because I think it highlights how hard it is. Major programs like Texas are in the same boat, but Ohio State has been pretty lucky since Tressell was canned. First, they went right for the best option out there, Meyer. Then Ryan Day was able to continue Meyer's momentum. When Meyer left here, we had Muschamp, who was very close to the Ryan Day of 2010. But we fizzled out after 2012. Tough to know if our 10 and 11 win seasons are dead cat bounces or signs of life/hope. I certainly don't see a 10-win season happening in 2023, but if we're still in 6-7-8 territory in 2024 then it's going to get very hard to say we're just a coach away.
We need a better than average qb to climb the ladder. 24 has Lagway as a true freshman. I’m not sure what we should expect in 24 either. I doubt we win 8-10 games with a qb ranked more than 6th in the sec. That’s what we had last year and probably what we have in 23. What do we have in 24, I suspect a better nucleus of a team but at this point, still a big ? at qb. A lot can change in two years but a solid build in a program may be a little slower. It took Dabo a while to get it going and Norvell almost got run out of town trying to build from the fsu train wreck. Make no mistake, Napier took over a big mess.
Napier is not an established top tier coach. Meyer was the biggest hire in my lifetime of watching UF. He has to recruit and build while fans and recruits take a wait and see attitude. Napier seems to be getting some traction in tge recruiting aspect and it’ll take time to see if he can run a program and coach em up. Saban has never been too big headed to hire the right guys. I’m all for Napier as oc , qb mentor, and calling plays until he proves he can either handle it or prove he needs help. If he needs help, will his pride let him ask for it.
Mac did bbq sauce, not peanut butter - and he is a liar who routinely overestimates the abilities of dogs to play QB instead of “not living in the 90s,” I do this thing where I *only* live in the 90s. I am guilty of not enjoying that time enough when it happened and I am trying to make up for lost time
Read all 150 previous posts and agreed with almost all the gripes listed. Probably amazing that I still care as much as I still do considering all of that. Killing the great mythology/romance of it all hollows everything out over time. Baseball still makes plenty of dough but who really cares? Meanwhile there’s a real price to pay for restricting fan access in spring ball in the name of controlling all messaging. They get far less out of near total secrecy than they think.
Texas is pretty notorious for its boosters and administration being a mess and not understanding how the game is played now, even worse than us and for longer. Ohio State is a well-oiled machine from the highest levels down and has been for decades.
We need to take notes if we are so damn intellectual. I guess our admins know the score though and do what they do for a reason. I’d love to believe we are all in.
I thought Mac was a "PB&J" expert? lol And I sympathize with you but my 96, 2006, 2008 Football and 2006 and 2007 BB ..............videos are WORN OUT!
Depends how we play versus Utah. If we lose a close 31-28 game, there will be hope. If we lose 48–12, then definitely sharpen those knives.
We should have beaten LSU, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and FSU last year. With the exception of LSU, they were all one-score differentials that we let slip out of our hands. A couple of our wins were also one-score differentials in our favor. Utah, Missouri, and South Florida fall into that category. Since the one-score loss-win margin is minus one, I believe that we will improve in that department, and will beat McNeese, Charlotte, Vanderbilt, Missouri, South Carolina, and Arkansas. Winnable games are FSU, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Expected losses are Utah, Georgia, and LSU. IF we can win the games we are supposed to win, win at least one winnable game and one expected loss game (upset), we will have eight wins. Winning the bowl game will give us a 3-win improvement over last year. So a 3-4 swing in positive is very possible. I never imagined having to struggle to find wins for this program ever again after the early 2000s, but this is where we are with Florida sports right now.
fwiw, I was talking about the first game in 2024 vs Ruiz U. The Utah game is complete unknown at this point, imho. Don’t think the knifes will be out after that game though.
We did not get many breaks or many favorable calls last year which is what happens in football and basketball when a program becomes mediocre. We have to be a technically sound team, and minimize mistakes.
