Just saying, in terms of reps (see: other post), he's about where Hurts was after year 1 at Bama. So, there is hope. But I agree. Being able to process the game is as big as the athletic gifts. Again, look at Bennett. Who would you have rather had last year?
Agreed. I would just add that, football wise, he's still a baby. Does not portend well for the next level, but if given the time, maybe.
Shane, of all people, should know that he wouldn't have been squat without Spurrier's teachings. Give credit where it's due, coaching matters.
There’s about 100 qbs getting checks in the nfl and maybe 10 have hopes of winning the Super Bowl unless their defense somehow carries them to victory. First round qbs are just that, someone thinks they can win tge Super Bowl. Hurts may be a good example of a first year starter but AR was in his third year on the roster and not many thought Hurts was the next Mahomes. Stroud is the best bet to me but still, he is not my dream top ten pick either. I’d just rather take a flyer on a qb a little later and pick someone I felt more confident about.
You won’t win em 16-7 anymore for sure but the championship teams still usually have the best defenses all the same.
I will be pulling for AR to be a superstar. He'll always be a Gator. He will become very rich in the NFL. He has rare freakish abilities that he can make a living off of. He appears to be a really good kid and never got in trouble, except that speeding ticket, and never embarrassed the Gators. He produced some great highlights as a Gator. But my concerns with him are between his ears. I hope that changes. If I remember correctly, he skipped playing his senior year of high school. In college when it was well known NFL scouts were in attendance, he shrunk from the pressure. He has one pass - high and hard. He chose on many occasions to not utilize his greatest weapon, his feet, when it was clear he could have gouged defenses. Every decision from an early age seems to have been made to get to the NFL. Nothing wrong with that goal, but to me he will prove one of the following... 1. He's not able to grasp/process the full range of being a top notch QB, regardless of the NFL's development process. 2. He does a great job in the NFL and it will appear that he didn't take things as seriously or try as hard as he should have in college. But, either way, I hope he is one Gator NFL QB that we can all brag about.
I don't know how you coach a kid, who has been a QB for a few years, that he's supposed to lead the receivers if he hasn't figured that out already for himself. Hell, hadn't he ever seen other QBs do that before?
It’s a slow time for news. I wish AR well, but CBN has 0 to do with the broad jump or 40 yard time. CBN can’t win/ if AR does not perform well in a couple of seasons CBN will get some blame. No one will remember Mullen’s handling of AR. Now if he does CBN gets the blame. Win a natty and this is an asterisk Out of CBN’s control, so onward
All correct and what makes drafting QB's in particular very difficult. It's hard to know if someone is going to excel so do you take someone early and hope you hit, or do you wait to see who's the real deal and try to get him in free agency (if his current team is dumb enough to let that happen). Happened with Brady to the Bucs and basically won the super bowl with him. The other way is almost a crap shoot and have to have an excellent surrounding cast.
Wow! Dude kills NFL combine and his college failures are on his personal QB coach. I happened to see AR in Jacksonville a few weeks back and highly suspect he was working with the same trainer so he could be ready for the combine. All said, is weird AR had a personal coach while he was a player.
