Is that an apology for accusing me of being partisan in a thread where I have heaped deep praise on a democrat?
A good man. Served his country in the military and in politics. Sunday school teacher. Married to the same woman for how many years? Habitat for Humanity. This world could use a lot more Jimmy Carters.
You're correct. As matter of tradition the sitting president has proclaimed the day of the deceased former president a national day of mourning and federal holiday. The practice apparently originated following the assassination of President Kennedy who died in office and was later extended to former presidents beginning with Eisenhower.
You defended Reagan because of your partisan bias. The fact suggest Reagan was not a good president and economic success is his second term was in large part due to the Fed.
Doubling down on the nonsense. Not shocked but you do you. But so we are clear, saying a republican fixed a republican mess is not partisan in any way shape or form. Oh and some of us are deeper than judging a potus on just the economy. See my love for Carter as the example.
Reagan: nice guy, worst president ever in terms of how he left the country, the ramifications of which are still being felt.
The people in Berlin and much of Eastern Europe disagree. INF treaty. A Woman on Scotus Grenada End of the cold war. Inflation reduced Unemployment reduced Unified the Republican Party Truth is we can all spin things. For instance...the economy...I could argue that the deficit created by military spending (that helped win the Cold War) actually made Clinton look good because the need for such spending decreased after Reagan won the cold war. But the man left us in a good spot if for no other reason than he made the world more peaceful for a time. Now Bush Sr? Thats a different story.
Appreciate your kind words about President Carter tilly. I had a couple of deer hunting leases near Plains and used to go through there all the time. Plains is not far from Andersonville, the Souths Civil War Prison for Yankee soldiers.
I mostly agree on Reagan. What’s wrong with Bush Sr? Also you threw some shade on Ford earlier. Why? As to Reagan and inflation, it was Paul Volcker who stomped it out. He was appointed by Carter. But I will give Reagan credit for not undermining Volcker, and he did reappoint him in 1983.
Not throwing shade on people as much as the state of affairs that Reagan really was dealt. From vietnam to Watergate to gas lines to hostages to a cold war... All handed to him. Like I said, Reagan was the first I remember. I was 7 when he was elected. As for Bush Sr. My first eligible election was him vs WJC. I voted for him... I do think the 1st Gulf War was a huge mistake.
So your position was we should have let Saddam keep Kuwait and potentially raid Saudi Arabia? I would not have expected this position coming from you.
No. I think he should have finished the job. Leaving the Iraqi people under the thumb of SH and leaving him in power led to bigger problems down the road. We had his regime on the ropes.
And Bush would say he inherited a mess from Reagan, esp the economy. And so it goes. Btw, u conveniently forgot the Iran/ contra scandal among a few other Reagan things. So much for a Carter thread tho. Not a great Prez, but a great man.
