Sounds good to me. He was also a major contributor on special teams at Houston, blocking two punts and three kicks in 2021 to earn the National Special Teams Player of the Year Award. Houston defensive back enters transfer portal
Good catch. He's a LB as far as I understand. Florida football: Houston LB Mannie Nunnery commits to Gators out of transfer portal | OnlyGators.com: Florida Gators news, analysis, schedules and scores
How does ST player block 2 punts and 3 kicks in one year? Surprised Beamer didn't get him. Suppose he had no chance at ND with that name.
linebacker. He weighs 225 pounds. Also excellent at special teams. I knew we offered him but didn’t see any intel that he visited. Staff working in silence.
Solid coverage linebacker with speed, good experience and production with time left to continue to develop and compete for bigger role. Fits needs in coverage and special teams and, at a minimum, adds needed depth. Another thoughtful pick up by Napier and his staff.
Hopefully we're getting who the coaches want in the portal, but it is weird to me that most of the guys we've landed aren't really highly rated/sought after guys. Seems a tier BELOW the caliber that we're recruiting in HS. LSU/Ole Miss/FSU seem to snatch up all the ones I hope we'd get. Wonder why the disconnect. Is it our evaluations or just don't prioritize portal recruiting? LSU seems to do a nice balance of both. They've added I think 37 total for this year.
I really am OK with this one even if just for ST which has been a weakness for us. If nothing else you have someone who blocked 5 kicks in one season. Regardless of the level, when do you ever hear of that? It's like Jaden Robinson his senior year with 7 games straight of turnovers. He wasn't highly rated and only flashed his athleticism previous years, but you saw in his highlights him causing havoc that year that nobody at his position was coming close to.
i I agree with that. That's a freakish stat. Bring it on. I was posing more of a general question about our portal recruiting, not trying to throw shade on this kid. There has been some top shelf portal talent available, but other than the guard from Baylor, we don't seem like we've been in the mix for any of it. Quality WR's, QB's, LB's. Lots of them. Just wondering if our coaches eval are diff than the "rankings" or if we just aren't nearly as good at portal recruiting as we are at HS recruiting. It is a totally different animal. Doesn't involve courting parents, high school coaches, etc.
Agreed. However, I do like Spurlock's highlights from high school, and Mazzcua will be very good as George likely will be too. I don't buy the portal ratings, but the main problem we have with portal recruiting is that we don't have the relationship with the best transfers coming from the best schools. When Trezmen Marshall looked for a landing spot from Georgia, he went to where he visited during high school. We were never in the running and never got a visit. We are still paying for the sins of Mullen and having a coach who came from a smaller program who wasn't recruiting those guys either.
